[Doton] Earth bending with Detective L

After hearing to Sensei's instructions Shikamaru quickly focuses raw chakra in his feet. He then applies nature manipulation to convert it into Doton chakra. After that Shikamaru channels the chakra underground and lets it travel to a certain distance that he wants to. He then releases all the chakra while applying shape manipulation to make several stone spikes arise from the ground under clone and pierces him in instant making him disappear.

3. It is basically an underground technique and most opponents will be unaware of it.
4. Can pierce out from the normal earth or users own created earth jutsu

1. It is a C-Rank technique so it can easily be countered
2. Dojutsu users like Byakugan will still be aware of it and will easily counter this
3. Will not work against sensory type as well
4. Cannot pierce through opponents EarthBased jutsu

1. I will use it when my opponent is cornered say in front of an earth wall and will impale him using this technique
2. I can use it to to manipulate my opponent by creating spikes in his way and directing him towards the way I want him

"Next one is fairly easy, but insanely useful. First concentrate your Earth chakra and focus it into the ground before you. This creates an artificial tremor, which would knock the opponent off balance or even just interrupt a sequence of hand seals. A simple technique that people seem to forget, that can be used so fast. Use it to interrupt my clone before he can form these 8 hand seals."

Shikamaru quickly starts focusing raw chakra into his feet. He then applies nature manipulation to convert it into Doton chakra. After that he releases his chakra into the ground with a single large push while applying shape manipulation. The single push of chakra and shape manipulation amplifies the intensity of chakra thus creating tremor. This causes the clone of sensei to lose balance and thus he could only perform four handseals.

Again tons of ways to use this jutsu
1. This jutsu causes opponent to be off balance so it can be followed by any attack the user deems worthy. Mostly I would go with Close Range Raiton when used in Short range, Or with mid range strong Fuuton jutsu when used at mid range.

A disadvantage is that the technique only travels up to Mid range, and it can easily be overpowered with stronger Earth based technique, when the opponent's Earth chakra is higher than C rank. Other than that, insanely useful. Don't forget these low ranking techniques when you one day master all the elements. They can really change the tide of a battle. Anyway, here you go."

The properties are then changed into a liquid like mud that can be launched from the mouth towards the opponent. This mud is somewhat sticky, and can be used to blind the opponent for a small amount of time. This small window of time could give you the opportunity to land the killing blow. Use it on my clone."

Shikamaru quickly focuses raw chakra into his mouth and applies nature manipulation to convert it into Doton chakra. He then applies shape manipulation to change it's properties and makes it into a slimy, thick and a sticky liquid of brown colour. After that he faces the clone and throws this newly created material in his mouth towards clone as a mud shot. This hits the clone right on the face and blinds him. After that it chokes him and making him disappear

1. No hand seals required
2. Since it is in liquid form so it moves fast then normal earth based techniques
3. Can be used to blind the opponent
4. Can be used to bind the opponent for short amount of time by throwing the projectiles at earth in front of him
5. Highly profitable in close combat

1. Doesn't cause much of damage if used at part other than mouth
2. If used from id range can easily be avoided
3. Only upto mid-range and effective in only short range
4. If countered with a b-Rank fuuton attack it's just going o be blocked while being on offensive
5. Easily stopped

1. I will use it to buy sometime from my opponent by making him blind
2. In close range combat I can use it on him to protect myself while putting me in offensive
3. I will use it in conjunction with fire technique to make it lethal, and with wind technique after it to increase it's speed and chances of it's connecting

Description: The user spits a thick globule of mud at the target. If aimed correctly, it can blind the target's vision and choke them. It can also be used to create a sticky patch on the ground.

"Okay, the next one I actually dealt with recently. With a single hand seal and by focusing your Earth based chakra to a specific point, one could cause a nearby Earth structures (like caves, ceilings), buildings or C rank structures, to collapse within itself and cause massive damage. How is this done? Basically, when you focus your chakra to that certai point, you can manipulate the Earth to remove an important part of the structure, one that holds the whole place intact. It's like stacking a few playing cards. Remove the bottom one, and they all fall. The damage done depends on the size of the structure, but can equate to a A rank damage although the technique is a C rank. Anyway, perform it on my clone who is standing in that cave!"

Shikamaru quickly performs a single hand seal and focuses his Doton chakra at the weak head of the cave above the clone.He immediately releases his cahkra and to his astonishment the cave starts to crack at the point where he had focused his chakra. Dropping stones and pieces of rock on the clone making him disappear

I don't see much use to this technique unless there is some structure around me to dislodge. If however there is one, I still won't use it because it will leave me vulnerable to damage. But as for it's uses it can be used to make the opponent lose balance or put him on defensive, giving me chance to attack

Descripton: The user will do one hand seal and cause nearby earth structures (either natural occurring ones on the field (such as cave ceilings, cliffs, etc), man made (buildings, etc) or jutsu made (up to C-Rank active structures)) to collapse and fall. This technique allows the ninja to control nearby stone and rock and dislodge any vulnerable or sensitive spots, causing the structure to collapse. This can be especially useful if in a cave or a stone lodging. The technique can loosen the rocks and cause them to come raining down on whomever is trapped inside. The damage depends on the size of the cavern or rock lodging above or nearby the target and not on the amount of chakra used which doesn't need to be high. A large cave with a thick ceiling can easily do the physical damage equivalent to an A-Rank technique but due to the damage not being focused or chakra fueled, its also easily defendable.

"The next technique is quite interesting. First, you have to perform the technique, Earth Release: Earth Flow River but it is only listed after this technique. So alternatively, you will form the Ram → Horse → Dragon hand seals and concentrate your Earth based chakra into an existing mud source, to create a dragon head made of mud. This dragon head is capable of firing mud bullets towards the opponent. These mud bullets can also be combined with a Fire technique to create pseudo lava that is flung towards the opponent. Use it on my clone."

Minato forms two hand seals, and creates a Swamp of Earth before Shikamaru that he can use as a mud source. After that, he creates a clone that stands about 7 meters from him.

Shikamaru sees sensei creating a mud swamp for him. So, he goes near the swamp and focuses his raw chakra into his feet. He then visualizes the strong m image of earth and it's characteristics and applies nature manipulation to his chakra converting it into Doton chakra. He then performs Ram → Horse → Dragon hand seals and channels the chakra from his feet to mud swamp. He then applies shape manipulation and makes the liquid mud to rise and take a shape of dragon head. The dragon head rises and opens it's mouth. Then it starts firing bullets of mud towards the clone which cannot sustain the damage and disappears.

Not many as the technique can easily be avoided and leaves only physical damage.
1. Useful if used with Fire to create pseudo lava bullets. That way it will be more effective.

2. Doesn't cause much damage

4. If no mud source than it will take two slots first to create a mud source than to performs this technique

1. I will not use it mostly, but if I have a mud source available then I will use it in conjunction with Fire technique to cause some serious damage

Description: When used with Earth Release: Earth Flow River, the user will then perform the Ram → Horse → Dragon they can create a dragon-like head that fires concentrated mud bullets at an opponent. This can also be combined with a fire jutsu to shoot lava toward an opponent. The dragon can be created from other mud techniques as along as a mud source is available.

"Now, the next technique will help you greatly with the technique you just learned. First, form the Tiger hand seal and mold your Earth chakra. Then release it into the Earth before you, towards the opponent which then causes the ground to transform into a river of mud beneath the opponent. This throws the opponent off balance, and creates a mud source for other techniques. Use it on my clone."

Shikamaru sees the clone coming to attack him so he quickly channels his raw chakra into his feet and transforms it to Doton chakra via nature manipulation. He performs the tiger hand seal and as the clone comes near shikamaru, he quickly channels this Doton chakra into the ground while applying shape manipulation to create a river more like a swamp of mud under the ground. This causes clone to lose footing and he fells into this swamp of mud. Shikamaru then uses a Katon Release : Fire Ball to burn the clone to crisp well actually making him disappear.

1. Requires single hand seal
2. Is highly useful when the opponent is already running towards you
3. Since the type suggests, it is supplementary and is used for combos with various jutsu
4. Can be used to make opponent off balance
5. And one thing that you mentioned in previous jutsu. It can be used with Katon technique to create a pseudo Lava type material

1. Deals no damage in itself
2. Requires both user and opponent to be on water
3. Can be countered easily in many ways

I will use this to make my running opponent lose balance
I will use it with Fire technique to cause some actual damage to opponent


Sensei I knew I don't have to be in the swamp. I just went near it.

"Hm, there are some mistakes you said. This technique only creates a river of mud beneath the opponent, no projectiles of mud are fired. The technique, Earth Dragon Bullet, can be MADE from the technique, Earth Flow River, and can be combined with Fire to make Lava projectiles whilst the technique, Earth Flow River, can't be combined with Fire as it merely creates a river of mud beneath the opponent. This makes it a large source of mud, and also, without the need of WATER. I didn't state that the river can be combined with Fire, nor that it should be used on Water. It literally transforms the ground into a RIVER OF MUD. But other than that, you did good. Here is the technique. Although supplementary in nature, in can be extremely useful."

"The next technique is more like a technique mostly used to constrict the opponent within a small space, or area. First, start off by forming the Rat → Horse → Dog → Snake hand seals and then mold and focus your Earth based chakra into the Earth around your opponent. Then manipulate it to cause a large amount of rocks based pillars to emerge from the ground around the opponent. These rocks can be controlled to surround the opponent, creating a prison of sorts around them. Use it to trap my clone inside!"

Shikamaru quickly performs Rat → Horse → Dog → Snake hand seals and focuses raw chakra into his feet. Then he applies nature maipulation to convert his chakra into Doton chakra. After that shikamaru channles the chakra into ground and makes it move towards the opponent. Once the chakra has surrounded the clone, Shikamaru releases it while applying shape manipulation to makes several rock pillars arise around the clone. The rock pillars are strong and long enough to entrap the clone inside restricting his movements.

1. Restricts the opponents movements
2. Can be used as a diversion for a stronger attack
3. Ca be used upto mid range
4. I am not really sure about this one, but I guess if I make these rock pillars around me I can protect myself from physical attacks

Disadavntages |
1. Weak jutsu So, it can easily be countered
2. Requires four hand seals and slow to use

Uses |
1. If using against a weak opponent I will performs this jutsu followed by a sharp spear like pillar of earth from underneath the opponent to kill him
2. If against a strong opponent. as it can easily be countered I will use it just as a distraction and will follow it up ba some strong Raiton technique while my opponent is blinded by pillars

"That's good. It can indeed be used to protect yourself, as it is basically a unique usage of the technique. There are many techniques that can be used differently than the description says, but people some times tend to abuse that. So if you do something different, make sure you can support why you used it like that. Here is the technique."

Description: After performing the required hand seals Rat → Horse → Dog → Snake and they then create a large amount of rock pillars to rise from under ground. They can then be controlled to surround their opponent and create a bamboo-like prison of rock.

"Next one, is an interesting defensive technique. The technique starts off by slamming your hands onto the ground before you and inserting your Earth based chakra as you do so. You will then manipulate the ground before you to form into a slab that can tilt upwards up to 90 degrees, which basically creates a large wall to defend from incoming attacks. Alternatively, you can also manipulate the Earth to cause 2 slabs to rise and tilt to the sides in front of you, which allows you to create a clear path should there have been something hazardous on the ground. (For example, Kabuto used this technique, to shift aside the Earth that had the flames of Amaterasu on them.) Use it to block this fireball."

As the sensei starts to release fire from his mouth Shikamaru quickly starts gathering raw chakra into his hands. He then applies nature manipulation to convert his chakra into Doton chakra. As the fire ball c is nearing him he quickly strikes both his hands on the ground releasing all the chakra while applying shape manipulation to cause a slab of earth rise at an angle of 90 degree in between him and the fire ball, Protecting him from the attack.

2. Can protect against many chakra based attacks as well as taijutsu attacks
3. Number of slabs can be created

1. It can easily be pierced through by Raiton attacks
2. This one is worst disadvantage of any technique for me. it leaves the user blind to opponent's activity.
3. Requires solid earth ground to perform
4. Have to be touching ground

I will probably never use it because of above mentioned 2nd reason. But still if I have a little time I will use it to protect me from taijutsu attack as that way my opponent will be near me and he will have less chances to pull something crazy on me

Description: After striking the ground with their hands, the user manipulates the ground in front of him to form a slab that tilts upwards, up to 90º, creating a wall of earth that can defend from incoming frontal attacks. In addition, the user can also create 2 slabs that will rise and tilt to the sides in front of him, as if "opening up" the ground. This can be done to create a clear path if anything hazardous is above the ground in that specific area.

"The next technique is once again a mud based one. The technique starts off by by raising your hand into the air, and focusing your Earth based chakra. This allows you to summon forth a river of mud, which can be used to cause some blunt impact and also as a source for mud techniques. Water can be added to the mud to make it faster and more powerful. Use it against my clone."

Shikamaru starts focusing raw chakra into his feet, while facing towards the clone running at him. He then applies nature manipulation to convert it into Doton chakra. After that he raises his left hand in the air and summons a large river of water in front of him. As the clone get's near him he causes the river to flow in direction of clone causing him to slip and drifted away with the water. The clone after drifting few feet disappears due to the strength of mud river.

3. Quick to use
4. Makes the opponent lose footing and thus infecting his hand seal sequence
5. The speed of flowing river can be increased along with blunt damage by using it along with water
6. Can be used as source for other earth based techniques

1. Not many, but it requires some pre-existing source, Like earth or anything. Cuz I think Hiruzen used this one against Oro

I will use this technique to make my opponent off balance
I will use this technique to lay some heavy damage as blunt force
I will use this technique to increase distance between me and my opponent by drifting him away from me
I will follow it by some strong fire attack while my opponent is standing inside the river to create something like pseudo lava

Description: This technique lets the user summon a river of mud infront of them by lifting one of their hands in the air. This technique can have water added to it to speed up the flow and increase its power.

"Okay, now for the next technique. A technique I myself don't like very much, it revolves around going underground by utilizing your Earth based to merge with the ground itself. This allows you to dodge some techniques or just hide. You can also use it to emerge behind the opponent without disrupting the Earth when doing so. Problem is, you can only go up to 4 meters in depth, merging is slow and you are vulnerable to Earth techniques as they would overpower and disrupt this technique, crushing you underground. Use this technique to stealthily kill my clone."

Shikamaru focuses raw chakra in his feet. Then he applies nature manipulation to convert it into doton chakra. After that he releases this chakra into ground below his feet and also around him to slowly merge with the ground. Shikamaru after sometime completely merges with the ground and becomes invisible to the clone outside the ground. Then he slowly moves towards the clone while being merged with the ground and appears right behind the clone. Clone completely unaware of his presence doesn't show any reaction. Shikamaru reaches his back pocket and takes out a kunai. Using this kunai he pierces the clone right through his heart making him disperse.

1. Requires no hand seals
2. Can be used to stealthily launch attacks

Disadvantages |
1. Merging with ground is slow.
2. You can only go 4 meters underground.
3. Counter of this jutsu by opponent will not be defensive, cuz any jutsu that can tear apart the earth can be used to inflict damage upon user.
4. Once the technique is disrupted the user will either be hurt by earth pieces that fall on him or by suffocation underground.
5. Unlike hiding like a mole technique user can't use any jutsu and isn't even aware of what's going outside.

1. Never going to use it. Don't want to get hurt, because there are even Fuuton and Raiton techniques that can tear earth apart

Description: Using this jutsu, a person can hide underground until they're ready to attack an opponent by merging with the ground itself. By utilizing earth-chakra, the person can stealthily emerge from the ground without disrupting the ground around him. The disadvantage with this technique is that merging with the ground is rather slow and while perfomring the technique, the user is vulnerable to high ranked Earth techniques. The user isn't hidden from doujutsu or sensory ninjas and cannot travel beyond the 3 meter deep mark. Moving around in the ground is slow and the user cannot sense very well what is happening above.

"Okay, the next technique requires you to perform the Rabbit → Boar → Rat → Horse → Tiger → Snake hand seals, and then slam your hands onto the ground. Then, concentrate your Earth based chakra into the Dragon Veins underground which allows you to tear the Earth apart into two opposite directions. This means you can literally create two chasms by raising the Earth and splitting it into two opposite directions. This can be used to split places apart, destroy defenses or even attack. Use it against my clone."
