Re: Boston Explosion Predictions?

who ever planted those bombs tryed to keep casualties to absolute minimum, how on earth you blow up 2 bombs and only 3 people dies with so much people around. Now i'm thinking that American gov is behind it, If I was a terrorist I'd threw few granades over the fence of Niki Minaj, Drake, Kasha or any other artists concert... I lol'ed at the news, Terrorists? B**** please

Believe it or not, the 'illegal arms trade' is a relatively secure trade. People go through a lot of effort to smuggle goods in, and don't want to have police tracking them back to you because some retard further down the supply chain used them to rob a bank.

There's a genuine reason to make sure the hand grenades you've been smuggling around don't end up in the hands of crazies - because you can be hung in half the world's countries for such activities (and that's probably where you're most active, ironically enough).

Which is why you see these improvised devices in a lot of domestic and sponsored cases.

The human body is surprisingly resilient - and depending upon the size of your explosives (likely apple or orange sized devices in this case to avoid suspicion) - the effects can be quite underwhelming. The people who died are likely those who were damn near on top of the thing - and they likely shielded many of the people behind them from significant harm.

The concussion of these things is going to be very limited (concussion is generated by overpressure - a wave moving at several times the speed of sound that can cause significant cellular-level damage) because you need very fast explosives and/or very strong containment of the explosion. High velocity explosives are exceptionally difficult to make, yourself (the equipment, knowledge, and experience necessary is quite steep for most - and those who could aren't going to piss it away).

Shrapnel is usually how these smaller devices make up for it - but that usually lodges in the first person it comes across - so a person sitting near one will take the brunt of the damage - but shield many others around.

Factor in that this was likely placed next to a wall or under a seat (to avoid suspicion) - both of which would have served to limit the blast (without really doing much to direct it).... and the low effectiveness of the devices makes perfect sense.

Re: Boston Explosion Predictions?

I'm no military expert, but I doubt whoever planted that bomb was worried in any sort of way regarding the innocent citizens' well being.

Correct. Radical leaders generally believe in if you're not with us you're against us. Kinda like the Fred Phelps logic. Soldiers and policemen who die for a country that allows gay rights deserve it for supporting gay rights. Doesn't really sound right. That's not to be confused with insurgents. There's a large difference between insurgency and radicalism. Insurgents simply believe they are defending their country. Never really had any beef with them unless they were shooting at me. Radicals are the ones that go around the world blowing up innocent people.

QFT

wasn't* But yeah, terrorist attacks are terrorist attacks, no matter how you look at it. If even 1 person was killed by an extreme action such as bombing, it's a terrorist attack.

Late news, buddy. But many probably don't keep up with the news.

I hope the two dead people are in a better place.

The images are horrible. Ppl without limbs and an aerial view of the area shows nothing but blood covering the ground. It's so saddening

I shudder to think what would have happened if they'd gotten some of the big stuff in there. Some fertilizer loaded van or an mefp pointed at those people all lined up along the fence. Would have cut through them like a butter knife.

Actually, I suspect this wasn't Middle-East driven terrorism. It was likely a more domestic variety.

A lot of middle-eastern influenced and muslim inspired terrorist acts value the concept of sacrificing yourself. Where was the suicide vest/underwear, here?

And, honestly - if it had been someone who knew what they were doing in the Sandy Hook shooting (someone in much better control over their actions) - half of that school would have been dead.

The people who know what they are doing when it comes to killing people generally don't waste their talents on petty scare tactics.

I shudder to think what would have happened if they'd gotten some of the big stuff in there. Some fertilizer loaded van or an mefp pointed at those people all lined up along the fence. Would have cut through them like a butter knife.

It's crazy how vulnerable our society is because they simply don't -think- about "huh... there are people out there who would want to harm me..."

Some of the training exercises we had were hilariously terrifying because of this... room clearing was a predator's paradise... They'd send a couple guys in to clear a room (who would be taken out)... then their friends would announce that they were coming into the room (and get taken down). People were passing sitreps to hostiles (who simply asked for them)...

Of course, when our base was under attack during our FEP... everyone was damned sure to use challenge and reply codes when we're trying to make sure coms is secure for their emergency destruction to go through... (we're out in the open, getting shot at: "[challenge]" "What?" "[challenge!]" "[Reply!], [Reply!] God damnit! Open the ****ing door!"

*sigh* ... man... a civil war would be pure chaos... You can't rely on the idea that your enemy speaks a different language....
