If Sumire still likes Boruto in the Manga then it's gonna be possible.

Sarada and Boruto's relationship is stronger post-Gaiden Arc (Boruto Movie and the current Mujina arc) so Sumire looks pretty irrelevant IMO.

I don't mind Boruto smashing both when he's older tho. He gotta spread that solo seed Zzz

First let me ask you this:

1. How do you know they won't show up in the manga prior or after the mujina arc? There's is no way to tell.

2. Sumire may as well show up at anytime in the manga that would fills in the gap from the anime which could explain why she was absence in the chuunin exam. The anime havn't reached to that point so what's make you think it's impossible when anything could happen between gaiden and the movie?


Also keep in mind that Kodachi and his group scrpted both the anime and the manga. Kishimoto also oversees both.

The Chunin Exams is a fully optional process. Them not partaking in it can be explained really easily. It would also make sense not to introduce Sumire early in the current manga arc, as that would spoil the whole Ghost Arc. They can still be there for the next arc.
