What's wrong with shipping kids who are the same age? It's not like it is pedophilic or perverse. Furthermore, just because you ship two kids doesn't mean you expect them to get together, marry, reproduce, or do anything sexual/romantic at their current age.
Just look at NaruHina and SasuSaku. People have been shipping them since part 1 (when they were 12), but nobody actually expected them to get together or get married or anything like that at that age.

Kids need to remain as just that, fighting with magic/superpowers/ninjutsu is one thing, they're still kids at the end of it.... having a child of 8-11 to be romantically involved by any standard is wrong. Physically and mentally children aren't developed enough to make that step, so I don't want to hear about couplings right now. When they get older like 15-19 then you can say it's a possibility

The 1/4 rule doesn't apply, Naruto has Hagoromo's chakra, the JuubiJin's body and Hinata has Hamura's chakra and main branch lineage. Boruto is more Otsutsuki than anything else and Sarada has the genes for Sasuke's chakra.

1: Naruto was gifted half of Hagoromo's powers by Haggy himself
2: Naruto doesn't have the Juubi nor a JuubiJin's powers, only the Rikudou Sage mode that was granted to him by Hagoromo when he shared half his power. Otherwise Naruto would be then immune to the effects of Tailed beast removal and have a Juubi eye on his forehead.

Like I said though, to ship two kids is not to say that they should make that step right now. I may not be able to speak for everyone, but at least for me (and for most shippers I see), if someone says "I ship BoruSara", he doesn't mean that he wants Boruto to head over to Sarada's house and start making out with her right now.
If I say that I ship BoruSara, this just means that based on the way their relationship seems to be progressing, I could see them being together at an age like 19 or 20. Predicting or hoping that they'll be together at 19 or 20 is not the same as getting an 11 year old romantically involved.

Meh... still the plot doesn't even tilt that way... It's more focused on the action/drama of the fighting... besides, the writers probably aren't trying to push a romantic theme into Boruto anytime soon.

I still hated it then too!... it was unnecessary and distracting from the more important stuff

How was it distracting though? The ships didn't even really affect the plot and we're only canonically confirmed in the very last chapter. In the entirety of 700 chapters, I can think of precisely two moments that were even remotely romantic. Those were Hinata's confession and Naruto and Hinata holding hands after Neji died. Even those two instances were during battles against powerful opponents.
If you were distracted by ships, you were probably focused too much on fans rather than the manga itself. In general, the manga itself never actually makes ships. It just makes canon couples in the last moments of the series. Fans are the ones who ship characters and start fan wars over it.
