The controversy surrounding the suggestion whether Boruto anime is canon or not has got me feeling the need to come to a conclusion that would immerse the topic from popping up.
To do that, I decided to dig a little bit concerning the subject. My first premise would be predicated on the staff of Boruto. According to

Ukyō Kodachi being the supervisor implies he monitors the anime and make sure it complies with his his work. If this is the case, it advances the notion that the Boruto anime might be canon.

Let's move away from this premise a bit.
"I plan to make it even better than Naruto."
This statement irrefutably proves Kishimoto acknowledges the Boruto anime in a way he wants it to be better than Naruto.
Writer's remark.
You don't plan, or want something to be better if you are NOT going to accept it, or ready to accept changes which itself is inevitable.
Thus, where does this leaves us comprehensively?
The Boruto anime is canon, a conclusion inferred from the following premise;
Ukyō Kodachi supervises the Boruto anime, meaning he monitors the story.
Kishimoto acknowledges the anime, implying he accepts the existence of the anime.
Additionally note(s)
In a way this is similar to Boruto Manga. The Boruto Manga is written by Ukyō Kodachi, but is supervise by Kishimoto. While Kishimoto doesn't directly establish the events of the Manga, he watches over it automatically making it canon. I added this notion because the definition of "canon" in anime terms may refute my conclusion. We have accepted that the Boruto Manga is canon undeterred by the proposition Kishimoto only supervise it, but he doesn't write the actual story. The Boruto anime is supervise by Ukyō Kodachi, the very guy that Kishimoto allowed to continue his Manga. If we can accept something as canon because the author is part of it, there's absolutely nothing hindering that logic from fostering the acceptance of Boruto anime as canon since the guy Kishimoto supports, is part of it. What's more, Kishimoto even supports the Boruto anime.

Who is Ukyō Kodachi?
Ukyō Kodachi (小太刀右京, Kodachi Ukyō ) is the author of the monthly Boruto manga series, illustrated by Mikio Ikemoto. Kodachi also wrote Gaara Hiden, the light novel adaptation of Boruto: Naruto the Movie , and collaborated with Masashi Kishimoto - the creator of Naruto - in writing the screenplay of said movie.

, he seem to be implying he was given carte blanche to push the anime in whatever routes he thinks is convenient for the success of the series. He also stated he met Kishimoto during a business meeting, and Kishimoto gave him an advice concerning how he should divide the story. This implies that, Kishimoto acknowledges the Boruto anime, a conclusion further substantiated by a
