The controversy surrounding the suggestion whether Boruto anime is canon or not has got me feeling the need to come to a conclusion that would immerse the topic from popping up.

To do that, I decided to dig a little bit concerning the subject. My first premise would be predicated on the staff of Boruto. According to , the staff of Boruto anime is as follows;

Chief director
Noriyuki Abe

Director
Hiroyuki Yamashita

Supervisor
Ukyō Kodachi

Ukyō Kodachi being the supervisor implies he monitors the anime and make sure it complies with his his work. If this is the case, it advances the notion that the Boruto anime might be canon.

Who is Ukyō Kodachi?
Ukyō Kodachi (小太刀右京, Kodachi Ukyō ) is the author of the monthly Boruto manga series, illustrated by Mikio Ikemoto. Kodachi also wrote Gaara Hiden, the light novel adaptation of Boruto: Naruto the Movie , and collaborated with Masashi Kishimoto - the creator of Naruto - in writing the screenplay of said movie.

This suggestion could be substantiated by the fact Sumire appeared both in the , and anime with the novel written by Ukyō Kodachi. Thus, we can say there's an element of truth with the notion he does supervise the Boruto anime.

Let's move away from this premise a bit.

, he seem to be implying he was given carte blanche to push the anime in whatever routes he thinks is convenient for the success of the series. He also stated he met Kishimoto during a business meeting, and Kishimoto gave him an advice concerning how he should divide the story. This implies that, Kishimoto acknowledges the Boruto anime, a conclusion further substantiated by a Kishimoto said in December during the Jump Festa event about the new anime;

"I plan to make it even better than Naruto."

This statement irrefutably proves Kishimoto acknowledges the Boruto anime in a way he wants it to be better than Naruto.

Writer's remark.
You don't plan, or want something to be better if you are NOT going to accept it, or ready to accept changes which itself is inevitable.

Thus, where does this leaves us comprehensively?

The Boruto anime is canon, a conclusion inferred from the following premise;

Ukyō Kodachi supervises the Boruto anime, meaning he monitors the story.
Kishimoto acknowledges the anime, implying he accepts the existence of the anime.

Additionally note(s)
In a way this is similar to Boruto Manga. The Boruto Manga is written by Ukyō Kodachi, but is supervise by Kishimoto. While Kishimoto doesn't directly establish the events of the Manga, he watches over it automatically making it canon. I added this notion because the definition of "canon" in anime terms may refute my conclusion. We have accepted that the Boruto Manga is canon undeterred by the proposition Kishimoto only supervise it, but he doesn't write the actual story. The Boruto anime is supervise by Ukyō Kodachi, the very guy that Kishimoto allowed to continue his Manga. If we can accept something as canon because the author is part of it, there's absolutely nothing hindering that logic from fostering the acceptance of Boruto anime as canon since the guy Kishimoto supports, is part of it. What's more, Kishimoto even supports the Boruto anime.

I know your thread was misinformed when you listed Ukyo Kodachi as the supervisor, no offense. He's not the main supervisor, he's listed as the story supevisor.

Not even Kishimoto is listed in the staff credits tho

Kodachi is story supervisor (ストーリー監修) of anime. Kishimoto sensei is supervisor (監修)(of manga).
Link removed

Kodachi writes script/screen play for original work of Boruto manga on which anime is based.
Not for Boruto anime.
I think who made entry to MAL got confused or MAL does not have role of adding screenplay of original work.
Spoiler: Hide

Series composition for anime is Makoto Uezu who you can say is responsible for over all writing of anime. Individual episodes have different script writers. Though Kodachi as story supervisor (ストーリー監修) and Kishimoto sensei as supervisor (監修)(of manga) can have their input (Examples: Episode 8 & 9)

Anyway it's not canon. Kishimoto has come out to say which arcs are canon or legitimate, and which are not.

So, he supervises the story, meaning he monitors the story, and? It doesn't really change my point.

Besides there are other points i added that proved its canon.

We don't know what he does for sure, but he isn't writing the episodes. The last time he made a note that both he and Kishimoto worked on an episode was during the Academy Arc.

Honestly they still hold out flat to the overwhelming fact that Kishimoto has to come out on TV to say which arcs are 'canon' and which one's are not. He said that he approved of the Academy Arc, that it was legit.

If the Boruto Anime was canon, or even if Kishimoto saw the Anime as a whole 'canon'. He wouldn't need to say this. I mean this as no offense to you at all, but people gotta understand that the Anime is an adaption of the Manga.

Why would the Anime be considered canon as a whole? Especially when it literally Adapts Manga Arcs? Everyone knows the Manga is canon. But the Anime is just an adaption.

However they'll probably throw in some Kishimoto approved arcs like the first one.

Why is the Boruto Anime being canon the only thing you care about? If you like the Anime so much, does it matter whether it's canon or not? Shouldn't you just enjoy it for entertainment purposes?

I'm confused :lol

Yes, he isn't writing all the episodes. However he is definitely part of it, a conclusion supported by the fact Sumire who was first shown in the anime, appeared in his novel.

The problem with this statement is that Kishimoto is never going to appear and say, "Hey guys this arc is canon, the others aren't." Why? Because he doesn't seem to be the main person in the drivers sit. There's also the suggestion that, the term canon does NOT exist in Japan.

There are more ways the anime can be proven canon, and Kishimoto acknowledges its existence is one of them. Like, the logic also applies to the Boruto Manga. He hasn't actually come out and say it's canon. We consider it canon because he acknowledges its existence, and allowed Ukyō Kodachi to write the story.

It's people like u who make it seem like the whole boruto anime didn't actaully happen in the boruto universe . That's why i'm pissed that all these character interactions and development according to u NEVER happened .. That's irritating u know... That's why not from the blue but by facts boruto anime is canon and this thread proved so . Stay mad

Ukyo isn't writing the episodes. Anyway the Novels are just the Anime episodes usually remade in episode form. He did the same for the Boruto Movie, and a few others. However, the Novels aren't canon.

Sasuke also has a novel in between Part 1 - 2.

The problem with what you said is that Kishimoto has already done this for the Academ Arc. So this point is kind of moot.

Kishimoto acknowledged the existence of Itachi and Shisui having PS in a video game by drawing it for them, but that doesn't really make it official. We have to wait for official statements. And your wrong.

Information said:
New SJ Podcast, new tidbits. Andy Nakatani, English WSJ’s Editor-in-Chief, returned from his trip to Japan and Jump Festa, where he interviewed Kishimoto.

Bullet points:

Confirmation that his next series will be sci-fi.

Kishimoto said that Boruto will be a legitimate, canon part of the Naruto universe.

As such, Kishimoto is really going to supervise it. “Like, super-supervise it.”

Kishimoto considers the Boruto serial to be just as important as the new manga he’s working on, so in his mind he’s giving them both equal attention.

Kishimoto has come out and stated that the Manga was 'canon'. But he hasn't stated the same for the Anime, only that the Academy Arc was 'approved'

This doesn't answer my question. Naruto got tons of development and interactions off screen with fillers, yet this was not considered canon.

Stop playing fiddle.

Kishimoto worked on Road to Ninja too. What's the issue?

Him wanting to make the Anime better than the Naruto Anime isn't Kishimoto saying, the Boruto Anime is canon now!

Hence why he stated that the first arc was approved by him. Now stop.

Kodachi, on Twitter, explained his, and the anime’s relationship with Masashi Kishimoto. Here’s what he said, “Boruto has been written with Kishimoto-san meticulously (truly meticulously) checking over it.Episodes 8/9 were originally one episode, but Kishimoto was saying things like, “let’s expand here because this is interesting,” “more of that,” and, “let’s give it a theme like this.” As a result of the excitement between myself and Kishimoto-san, I wound up working very hard on Miwa’s screenplay.”

This means Masashi Kishimoto is working on Boruto anime as well, and it is being released under his watch. So, no folks, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is not filler at all. Many fans claimed it be filler, but now, even the writer himself confirmed that Kishimoto is working on it.

Kishimoto has also alluded to working on the anime story as well in an Shoen Jump interview.

So I don't think you can say definitively that the anime is 100% filler until Kishi himself actually specifies how invloved he is becuase according to Ukyou Kodachi, he is under Kishimoto’s Extremely Carefull Supervision.

You must be registered for see images

“Boruto is created under Mr Kishimoto’s careful (extremely careful) supervision, but episode 8 and 9 were originally one episode, and it became two episodes due to thoughts such as “let’s expand this because it’s interesting”, “let’s add to that”, “let’s go with this type of theme” from Mr Kishimoto and I. And Miwa (Kiyomune Miwa) who does the scripts worked very hard due to this excitement from us.”

Another better translation to the same tweet I came across....

"BORUTO" is made on the basis of Mr. Kishimoto's close (truly careful) check, but 8/9 talks were originally one episode "Since it's interesting, let's expand here" "Let's increase that "As a theme like this" and Kishimoto and Mr. Kishimoto were excited, I decided to have a lot of hard work in the scriptwriter Miwa.

Key words: Kishimoto being closely and carefully involved.

This confirms yet again Kishimoto is actually working quite a lot on the Boruto anime and confirms its canonicity even further.

So.....i can't really soundly disagree with OP....
