Okay then, let me explain to you next how techniques work in battle. Listen very carefully. Tiashe started saying a list of what happens when two different elemental attacks are brought together.

S+S = Very strong S-rank jutsu
S+A = Strong S-rank jutsu
A+A = S-rank jutsu
A+B = S-rank jutsu
B+B = A-rank jutsu
B+C = A-rank jutsu
C+C = B-rank jutsu

C+D = B-rank jutsu
D+D = C-rank jutsu

Now, you may be wondering why I am explaining to you a combination of two attacks when you would usually use only one attack at a time. You see, sometimes you might do two attacks at the exact same time, such as if you are using a clone to help you, or if a technique allows another one to be done alongside it. It is for those such occasions that you need to keep these in mind. Also, the opponent may use two techniques on you at once, and you need to know what rank technique to use to counter. Also, do note that two S-Ranks have a very strong S-Rank, not an F-Rank, as an F-Rank is supposed to have some health drawbacks to the user.

Another important concept you need to know when combining two techniques is the range. Again, he said a list out.

Long Range + Long Range = Long Range
Long Range + Mid Range = Long Range
Long Range + Short Range = Mid Range
Mid Range + Mid Range = Mid Range
Mid Range + Short Range = Mid Range
Short Range + Short Range = Short Range

This means that if you have for example, a mid range water technique and a short range lightning technique, the water would carry the lightning, allowing it to go further than short range into mid range. However, the technique that can go further should be a medium that can actually carry the shorter ranged technique over. Therefore, a mid ranged lightning technique would not be able to carry a short range water technique as it is not a medium with which to carry.
Also, note that short range = 5 metres, mid range = 10 metres, and long range is anything more than that. Any questions so far?

Okay we are going back to OOC for this part. Let me explain to you how we battle in this RP. You can either battle in the >>>Battle Arena<<<, or you can do so in the WSE, which I will explain to you later. In the battle arena, you will usually make a thread, and someone will post there, accepting your challenge. Now, there are specific rules you and your partner must agree on during battles:

  • Standard R&Rs: This refers to >>>LoK's Rule and Regulations<<<
  • Terrain: You and your partner(s) must decide on a terrain which you will battle on and additionally the weather. This does not mean that the field and weather can't change through the use of a jutsu.
  • Range: Where both of you exactly stand. Short (0 to 5 meters) , medium (5 to 15 meters) or long range from each other (15+ meters)
  • Element & Jutsu Usage: You can choose which and how many elements you want to use in a battle (from the ones you learned), but also whether custom jutsu's/elements are allowed or not.
  • Type of Battle: Choose the type of battle you want. No restrictions, taijutsu battle, ninjutsu only battle, team battle, etc.
  • Bio: Agree on which bio each participant uses.
Here is an example of the opening post of a battle: https://animebase.me/threads/ice-duel.765358/#post-21864256

You can also decided in the opening post who will go first.

Apart from this, there are some other rules about battling that you have to follow:

Jutsu Limit:

You can use up to 3 techniques in your turn, although you can use more than 3 if you have passive techniques. Passive techniques are those that do not take up a move slot or timeframe, and they will usually say inside it that they are passive. Basically, you will take turns with your opponent to perform moves. Although each 'move' allows you to perform 3 techniques, your opponent, in their 'move', can interrupt for example your first technique, thus not allowing all your 3 techniques to go through. This might be confusing right now, but it will become clear soon when we have a mock battle together.

Blocking, Avoiding & Dodging:

In order to block your opponents attack, you can use one of your techniques to block theirs. I already explained to you what elements you can use to defend against the enemies ones, and what ranks are required. Instead of blocking, you can also avoid and dodge the opponents attack by using a technique that for example moves you out of the way. Remember, you can not just say "I block the attack"; you have to describe exactly how you block or dodge it as techniques can be used in different ways. Neither can you just avoid it by saying stuff in the nature of "I move to the left", you need to use a technique of your own to do that if needed and/or Taijutsu if applicable against related attacks. If you do not use a technique, then you are considered to be freeforming, and this is not allowed unless you are dodging something the opponent does that is not a technique. For example, if they throw a kunai at you, and it is not a technique but is a freeform move, then you can freeform and say you dodged it without having to use a technique. However, if they fire a fireball at you, and you just try to move out of the way, you will be hit. Because for that, you would be having to use a technique of your own to move out of the way.

Time-Frame Rule:

The first aggressive action of the first player triggers the beginning of the fight. However, the timeframe can only move forwards and, as such, the first aggressive action of the first player cannot be prevented. This aggressive action is any action that initiates the battle and that the other player can perceive. This means that even is the opponent is just making a hand seal, in the first move of the fight, you can not prevent it or interrupt it. However, in later moves, you can interrupt hand seals, particularly if the opponent is making a long list of hand seals.

Normally, the first offensive action is a technique, but it can also be throwing a Kunai, molding your chakra, running, etc. Note that molding chakra triggers the beginning of the fight but DOES NOT mean that you can stop that from happening; It means that you can start "acting" from that point on. Acting, as in, molding your chakra, taking a stance, if you are able to detect the opponent molding chakra through sensory type jutsu such as Sharingan and Sensory techniques etc. Since you have the Sharingan, you will be able to see when the user is molding chakra, and so you have an advantage of being able to react faster in most cases. This doesn't mean that you can finish a technique before your opponent finishes his, just that the time frame itself starts at this point.

So in a fight, time frame usually goes like this:

If your 3 techniques in a move are A, B, C, and the opponents 3 techniques are D, E, F, and you go first, this is how it will probably look:

Technique A
Technique D
Technique B
Technique E
Technique C
Technique F

As you can see here, when you use a technique, the opponent uses one, then you use another, and they do too etc. Since you can never do two techniques in the same time that your opponent does one (unless you're using a clone or have some other circumstance), the timeframe should never look like this for example:

Technique A
Technique B
Technique D
Technique C

Basically, you take turns doing techniques.

Official vs Unofficial Battles:

You can make a battle Official or Unofficial. If it is Official, then you can get Kumi by winning, but if it is Unofficial, it will just be a regular spar. Official battles are usually more serious in that people will try harder to win in them, since you can get Kumi by winning. Once you win an Official fight, you have to post in >>>this thread<<< to get your Kumi, and you have to follow the template given in the first post of the thread.

Disagreements, Quoting & Quoting Etiquette:

Finally, I will explain what to do if you happen to find yourself in a disagreement with your opponent. It happens when you both don't agree with the way the other used a technique, or with the way the other person defended etc. If such a situation arises, you have to first talk respectfully to solve it. If you both cannot come to an agreement even after discussing, then you may contact a Sensei and ask them to make a ruling on your fight. They will post what they think, and if you are not happy with their check, you can request one more Sensei, although I believe that the person who did not ask for the first one gets to ask for the second one, as there may be biases with checking. Anyways, if it does not get solved with the Sensei, then, and only then, do you go to an RP moderator to sort it out. But hopefully you will not have to argue or be argued with during your battles.

Do you have any questions about battling? If not, then in the next post, I will link you a thread in which we will have a practice spar so you can learn how to battle. ^^

Really sorry for the delay. I just traveled to another country so finding time is a little more difficult. Anyways, >>>here<<< is a thread I have created for us to spar in, so we will move there for a bit. ^^

Back to this thread now. So, we've finally finished the battling portion of the lesson. Let's move on to the Ninja World now, also known as the Warring States Era. To begin with, >>>this post<<< here shows the map of the Ninja World. There are actually 3 maps shown. The first one shows the natural terrain of the NW, the second one shows all the individual landmarks in the world, whilst the last one also shows the landmarks, but has colour coding to show you which ones have already been claimed by villages and clans. You might be wondering what a landmark is. It is an area of land that someone can claim. It allows for us to visualise the NW better, and makes it easy to travel to different places, since they all have names.

In order to claim a landmark, you must be in a clan or a village. Currently, there are 4 villages in our NW. They are Shimogakure, Tanigakure, Taiyogakure and Tsumigakure. Just like how villages are in the anime, these villages all have their own Kage. They all occupy their own lands, as you can see on the 3rd map in the above paragraph. You can only be in one village at a time. If you want to be in another village, you have to leave your current one. Sometimes villages even go to war against one another, which makes things interesting. >>>This post<<< describes villages, in case you wanted to read it.

Clans are similar to villages, except they are smaller. However, they can also grow and eventually become villages. You can make your own clan in the NW if you want, or you can join an existing one (like mine if you really want to). Also, there is a limit t the number of people that can be in a clan, though this limit increases as the clan progresses towards becoming a village. >>>This post<<< is about clans.

Alternatively, you can also choose to be a rogue, meaning that you don't have to be in either a clan nor a village. However, that means you will probably have less protection, although you will have more freedom.

Any questions so far?

Alright then. Next is missions. Missions take place in the NW, the place I have just described to you. Remember how Naruto used to do missions with his team? Kind of like that, except you can work on your own. You don't have to do missions with other people, but you can. It's up to you. Also, just like how it was in Naruto, missions rank from D-Rank to S-Rank (D-Rank -> C-Rank -> B-Rank -> A-Rank -> S-Rank), increasing in complexity and difficulty level with each rank. So D-Ranks are the easiest, and require the least effort.

Missions are made up of elements that you can use to make your story revolve around. You have freedom to write however you want, provided your elements fit into the narrative. The storyboard elements can be found in >>>this post<<< here, as well as other information about missions. As you can see in that post, the elements are divided into ranks. You can also see that some elements are red. They are for people in clans, who want to use the element for ranking their clans up. Aside from that, you can use however many elements in a mission that you want, provided it's a sensible amount. For example, if you want to use one element, you can, but then you have to make sure that most of your mission focuses on it. Sometimes it is easier to use more than one element as you can spend less time on each one. Also, you can make custom elements if you want, meaning you can make up your own element and its rank, provided it suits of course.

Note that next to each rank, there is also a number. For example, D-Rank has 1 next to it. This is for making it easier to calculate the rank of your mission. For example, say you want to do a mission that involves both a D-Rank and a C-Rank mission in it. How do you calculate its rank then? It's simple. Just add the numbers up (1+2), which gives you 3, then divide it by 2 as that is the number of elements you have. That gives you 1.5, rounding up to 2, so the mission would be C-Rank.

At the beginning of each mission, you have to state the storyboard elements, and have a summary of your mission. >>>This post<<< is an example of this, just look at the beginning part of it and you'll see what I mean. In regards to how you should do missions themselves, a guide has been created to make it easier for people to know how much detail they need to put. >>>Here<<< is the guide. It gives you tips on how to pass missions.

Then once you complete a mission, you have to post in the storyboard mission submission thread, which is >>>here<<<. You'll need to follow the template and submit it. If you pass the mission, you will receive kumi and ryo. Kumi is RP money which you can use to buy abilities from the RP shop. Ryo is also RP money, but it is used to buy things in the NW itself. The amount of kumi and ryo that you earn upon passing a mission depends on the rank of the mission:

D-Rank: 250 Kumi & 250 Ryo
C-Rank: 450 Kumi & 450 Ryo
B-Rank: 650 Kumi & 650 Ryo
A-Rank: 1,000 Kumi & 1,000 Ryo
S-Rank: 1,500 Kumi & 1,500 Ryo

Sometimes there are arcs that give special elements for missions that give more kumi. We will talk about NW arcs next. Any questions for now? Remember, I'm gonna test your knowledge on this later so ask anything now...
