I meant people were complaining about Mine holding her own against Esdeath despite earlier on having a hard time against Seryuu and Wave. First off, Esdeath wasn't even trying which is proven when Esdeath held her own against a combination of Tatsumi and Mine, then Akame and Mine. IMO Tatsumi, Mine, Esdeath and Akame are the only ones to get stronger as time goes on. Even though Leon is still alive, I haven't seen any improvement from her.In AgK? Most of them don't get the time to improve as they die too fast :| We only see Tatsumi actually progressing and Esdeath developing new techniques.

Did Akame actually improve though? I was under the impression that she had the same, high skill level all along, only to be protected by someone else whenever plot demanded it, even though it would seem that she shouldn't need that. And Mine did "proper maintenance" of Pumpkin and got powered up by the danger, which was the biggest against Esdeath and Budo.
Well Akame was able to force Esdeath on the defensive who couldn't properly track Akame's movements. On the other hand, before that, characters with far less speed than Esdeath didn't have as much trouble.

I know they train, but when I think back to all battles we've seen (not many) the progression isn't that evident, and the way fights go is still strongly plot-dependent. I mean, we know Akame is super-fast, and she had always been so, yet she had to be saved from Mastema's wing by Tatsumi and from Esdeath's icicles by Leone in the latest chapters.
I think Tatsumi and esdeath are the only ones getting any better. The rest of them could already do what they've shown before it was shown, their training was mostly to stay in shape with their skills and bodies. But what they can and can't do in a fight is dependent on the plot.
At least she really wanted to do something. It's the thought that counts, no? Lol
