No amount of hair gel would create anything like that U_U The "haircut" structure itself is impossible, unless it uses a frame and other things to give it such shape.

It's not impossible to make hair look like this but it doesn't resemble anything natural, at all. The closest would probably be something like this:

Bulat's hair is actually more realistic, surprisingly, it would just take a lot to get it to keep that shape.

Not all manga has unrealistic hair though. AgK somehow alternates between hair that makes sense and hair that's irritatingly impossible.

I searched for fan arts last month or so and found some.. of Esdeath having ***. :|
