The anime introduced a bunch of new characters but they were nowhere to be seen in the Chunin exams in the manga so maybe they didnt pass the entrance exams? I hope they explain this in the manga and introduce them because otherwise the anime is going to have a lot of trouble incorperating them...

I don't recall these new characters being present during the chunin exams during the manga and having the anime running alongside the manga is going to get confusing with how they incorperate these characters if they are absent from the manga and don't contribute to any of the major plot...
