I think Shikaku is the only one who is even in Naruto's level at this point, after he figured out a way to beat Pain and now how he was the only one to figure out a way to help the SA survive the TBBs from Juubito inside the barrier.

Seeing as how he was the only one who figured out how to survive the Juubi Mode Obito's TBBs, and he was also the only one to figure out Pain completely. With Shikaku dead, Naruto should be next in line.

They are split into six bodies so they can do six different things at once and have 6 different sets of eyes to look out for each other. Also fighting 6 different targets is diffficult for the opponent because they are coming at them from six sides so you have to constantly watch your flank...
