Misconception: Itachi > Jiraiya

Itachi wasnt lying about Jiraiyas strength for an excuse to flee, if he was that concerned about Konoha he wouldnt of ordered Kisame to take the defeated Kakashi and kill Kurenai and Asuma.
Kisame proved to be no lightweight when it came to fighting, Bee and Guy will be testimony to that. And he said Jiraiya was stronger than him, so it shows Jiraiya was a beast.
So when Itachi says the best he can get is a draw,or he'd still draw at best with back up, I'd take his word for it. Kishi had Itachi state that so people know that Jiraiya is a top dog in the shinobi world.

NO. He literally said that "only a close blood relative could escape my Tsukuyomi." We know that to be true since it happened. However, the only person that statement is false is in regards to is B, who wasn't even introduced for 300+ chapters.

Only thing is loads of characters seem to give respect to other characters, especially in relation to the sannins. Kisame has the feats and abilities to defeat any of the sannins. I dont take what a character has said seriously. Ive already said this, no point quoting me telling me this

first of all where are you getting this 13 yr old itachi beat oro crap he was like 19 or 20....2nd oro and jiraiya's fighting styles are totally diff oro didnt necessarily attack itachi he tried to subdue him with his snake arms.....point is jiraiya would never be caught in a situation like that so your points = FAIL

To be honest, i believe all vs. arguments are a matter of opinion. unless an obvious difference in power then we cant assume A>B or vise versa. so unless the battle was TonTon vs Rikudo Sennin or something to that degree then any character has the potential to beat any character or visa versa. realy the only way one could decide who would win or who would be stronger is based on chance, intent, and willpower. the colonies beat England, and we had several disadvantages. it is a matter of opinion and personal preferances.

That aside I respect your way of thinking. personally i believe both are very strong and capable shinobi. +rep all the way

Kishi made it painfully obvious that these two Kage-level fighters are equals. Yet a lot of people choose, on purpose or not, to underestimate Jiraiya when conversations regarding these two inevitable occur. I think fanboys aside; a lot of it has to do with the whole out of sight, out of mind mentality which isn’t unusual with all the awesome fights we have witnessed after Jiraiya’s death however the facts remain.

Databook scores: 35, 5 vs 35, 5.

They share the number one spot with the exact same score. They excel at each other’s weaknesses while they are also able to master the ability to shield their individual weaknesses e.g. by either entering special modes or by simply adapting their strategy accordingly. In essence they can both beat each other and most likely, most times, it would come down to minor details which would’ve otherwise been irrelevant (condition, surprise aspect, killing intent, etc). Kishi > speculation.

Itachi and Kisame’s infamous meeting with Jiraiya:

Kisame, one of the legendary swordsmen, directly admitted inferiority to Jiraiya, while Itachi claimed that he could only draw with him. These words were stated in the manga.To those who would argue that Itachi wouldn’t hurt anybody from Konoha, well, answer these questions:

Why did Itachi order Kakashi’s murder? Why did Itachi and Kisame go after Naruto? Why didn’t Itachi prevent Kisame from chopping off Naruto’s leg? Last I checked Itachi wasn’t a psychic, so until those questioned are asked nobody can trash the scan.Itachi feared he couldn't get to Sasuke, in one piece, if he engaged in an all out war with him.

Why Itachi can’t just one-shot him every time:

Besides the databook (and various statements made throughout the manga, e.g. Pain stating that Jiraiya could have won their epic battle), I will also like to point out that Jiraiya is an efficient counter fighter. His entire fighting style revolves around him being able to think on the spot, with his humongous /versatile arsenal, and successfully counter his opponent(s). This means that he won’t fight two different fighters the same, and he will specifically design his game plan around his opponent’s strength/weaknesses i.e. he will break down Itachi and realize that he should be worried about Itachi’s genjutsu. He would keep the battle long range, avoid eye contact, and last but least summon toads and/or Kage bunshins which would raise his odds considerable e.g. Itachi would be hesitant to cast Tsukuyomi when he sees several clones in front of him, of course due to his poor chakra/health.

As I said, we have witnessed Jiraiya’s unique fighting style in a lot of different scenarios. He deduced Konan’s weakness in mere seconds and disposed of her like she was pure fodder. Which we know is false since she technically killed the most invincible man on the planet. He also knows when he is outmatched and when to actually revise your plan. Against the six path of pain he figured out the fact that he needed to separate them and actually meet them one-on –one, which is brilliant. He also realized that one the paths could turn “invisible” so he decided to use a barrier that is able to detect movement. This again indicates, that Jiraiya can’t be taken with his pants down… unless in a bath house.

If your base for such a thread is on data book stats then you really dont have an argument im afraid. Sure they might have the same stats, but stats do not decide a fight. Loads of things decide a fight and if you were to analyse their abilities in detail and disregard stats, youd come to the conclusion that itachi is superior to jiraiya.

The first paragraph was enough for me.

Nagato fought against Naruto, Bee and Itachi. And only lost because he was handicapped. Could Itachi fight against Naruto, Bee and Nagato even if only for 30 seconds? Nope..
All you can say is that Kishi made Itachi seal a poorly used Nagato with the help of the two most powerful Jinshuriki. And that pretty much states what Kishi thinks about that Nagato and Itachi.

Anyway action speaks louder than words.
We saw what happened when both faced jiraiya, they werent exactly nerves. Also if we were to solely go by the words of itachi then we should belief everything he says. Yes this includes what he says before we eventually find out the truth.

Going by abilities demonstrated and fighting style;
Itachi> jiraiya
Kisame > Jiraiya

Your argument that Itachi was an ally of Konoha and didn't want to hurt them doesn't work for Kisame. He wasn't an ally of Konoha and was very loyal to the Akatsuki, he himself said he's no match for Jiraiya, so...

Ive argued all your points on numerous occasions.
I cannot be bothered to repeat myself. You are entitled to believe itachi = jiraiya though

He made alot of god points, either one could win depending on a few variables. For example if they started the fight 50 fets or so Jiraiya can make 3 shadow clones to fight and that toad he summon in his pain fight to be his legs while he gathers natural chakra. 1 clone summons gamabuta and use their fire blast/oil combo on itachi, itachi only choice would be Amaterasu or Sasunoo. if Amaterasu then as it burns Jiraiya's fire jutsu, the toads would jump out the way and if Itachi tries to chase them with Amaterasu then 1 or 2 of Jiraiya's clones would use that time to attack. If Itachi used Sasunoo then Jiraiya would use that mud swamp jutsu he used in the 1st series to sink Sasunoo. In this time Jiraiya would have fused with Ma and Pa to help him enter Sage Mode. Frog song and it's over. In close range Jiraiya can cover himself in his spikey hair and shoot his hair needle jutsu to make Itachi move away and repeat the steps I said above or ultra Oodama rasengan Itachi t force Itachi to block it with Sasunoo. What's to stop Jiraiya from throwing a flash bomb at Itachi and either blinding Itachi's eyes for a few minutes or make Itachi close his eyes giving Jiraiya enough time to make the few hand seals and turn Itachi into a toad? Many things can happen, surprise attacks can decidea fight, we learn that whe Naruto fart surprised everyone and caused Kiba to keel over from the smell. We know wat Itachi can do so I don't have to go into details, they are even and lets end it there ok? You must note Itachi was dying from a disease and his MS deals alot of damage to him which weakens him and he will die from over usage. His eye sight wouldn't be so great either.
