Not beat them, just make it a draw. And that could just as easily mean not dying against them. Itachi never said the stalemate was in regards to him winning.
Here we go, I got the Naruto Wiki's translator's literal translation of what was said by Itachi and Kisame:

When did I say he was scared of Jiraiya (hint: I didn't). Kisame never said that either. He just said he couldn't win. And actually, it goes a little something like this:

What characters believe about there own abilities >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>what you can speculate about. that goes for everyone.

Why would anyone else's beliefs on something trump what the characters themselves say, given they know the full extent of their abilities? If Itachi believes that, why would any of us be right in saying that isn' true?

I understand what hype is. It's an exaggerated claim, often unfounded. This is what the characters themselves believe vs. what you say.

Itachi said a non-Uchiha couldn't break out of his Tsukuyomi, not that he was unbeatable. thus far, that has been completely true. However, we do know that B could, as he is completely immune to Genjutsu.

Funnily enough it is you who are assuming something to be hype that was directly stated by the character. They wouldn't put themselves down for no reason other than it being the truth.

If we are now dismissing the claims of characters in the manga that weren't hype, then this thread has gone completely down the toilet...

Your point? The databooks don't take into account alterations to the character such as power-ups. If they don't do that, they probably don't take into account illnesses. And Itachi stated this 3 years before he was said to have had he illness.

NO. He literally said that "only a close blood relative could escape my Tsukuyomi." We know that to be true since it happened. However, the only person that statement is false is in regards to is B, who wasn't even introduced for 300+ chapters.

Itachi wasnt lying about Jiraiyas strength for an excuse to flee, if he was that concerned about Konoha he wouldnt of ordered Kisame to take the defeated Kakashi and kill Kurenai and Asuma.
Kisame proved to be no lightweight when it came to fighting, Bee and Guy will be testimony to that. And he said Jiraiya was stronger than him, so it shows Jiraiya was a beast.
So when Itachi says the best he can get is a draw,or he'd still draw at best with back up, I'd take his word for it. Kishi had Itachi state that so people know that Jiraiya is a top dog in the shinobi world.
