I think oda made a mistake making shanks lose an arm to a random sea-king that luffy later pwn´d when setting off on his journey, he could´ve just made shanks save luffy and still retain his arm, this wasn´t necessary and he could´ve used his haki from a distance.
All i´m saying is that shanks losing his arm didn´t need to happen and if he had to do it, let him lose an arm on a huge battle or something, let him lose it for something worthy, going to the most harmless place in the op world, east blue and yourself being a yonkou and then lose an arm when saving a kid.
That is a letdown, why did oda bother to later in the series show us how great he is when he has showed him like that, just say he´s luffy relative or something and have someone else as a yonkou, someone that doesn´t lose limbs just because.
