¤ Ninja World Major Update ¤
Ninja World Rules: Fourth Edition

The long-awaited new story and world setting has been finalized and shipped. To start us off, Arc 1 is called New Horizons and is thematically centered around Summoning Contracts & Animals. This will come in the form of two major events planned. Narratively, the arc and those following it are the answer to the question, "How would the Ninja World evolve if the gods never intervened?" An effective story and world reset, most if not all previous storylines are now defunct--or more accurately, no longer apart of the new timeline. Though more complex than that, we've decided to keep the details and events of the story grounded with more human and Ninjutsu-focused elements, akin to the first iteration of the Warring States Era. Along with this major update comes the fourth edition of the Ninja World Rulebook. Some of the changes include:

I) New Horizon Arc & Biographies
A special type of NW Bio, New Horizon Bio's are willingly reset both skill and age-wise to a weaker state (Academy Student, Genin, or Chunin) in exchange for access to unique Missions and Sagas that are tailored around that Bio's history and abilities, often times overwriting them without counting as a Bio Reset with its penalties. These can be created at the start of every arc but there is a lockout period of 1 Ninja World Arc (3 months) if a player drops the bio. New Horizon Bio's can also be updated after every Matriculation Exam, separate from usual submission rules.
II) NPC & Ninja World Interactions
Introduction of roll-based interactions which can apply to any NPC in the Ninja World. This also introduces multiple story paths depending on the outcome of some of these interactions.
III) Rifts Revamped
Introduction of roll-based mechanics and more in-depth Rift environments that often require exploration. Also some minor changes like scalable difficulty and a lower Rift lock-out period. New Rift enemies will be introduced throughout the arc.
IV) Player Groups (Clans & Orgs)
Villages are a well-loved feature of the Ninja World. Unfortunately, the current player numbers don't warrant the effort and site-related work necessary to bring back Village Forums. But there is a compromise to this. With a reimagined take on Clans and the addition of Organizations, players may still functionally reach Village levels of influence and control over a region.
V) Marketplace Network & VIA Removal
The Market LM's and rules will remain the same but the inventory and types of available items have changed to now feature ninja tools and other artifacts in addition to unique, NW-related items. Keep an eye out for the Marketplace Inventory List, which will be created later within the arc.
VI) The Blood Tavern's Return
A social hub and also general noticeboard where players may interact with each other or certain NPC's that will frequent this spot. Like Marketplaces, no one or group may claim the LM that contains the Blood Tavern, nor can any fight or combat-oriented actions be taken within the establishment or the LM. This will be located on Hokurikudo Island (133), right in between the mainland and the Land of Unknowns, Tobusekai.
VII) Player Submitted Events
As the name suggests, a new submission thread will be created in the Ninja World that will have players request unique World events that affect an area or group and can only last 2 weeks at max. Only a few of these will be allowed to run concurrently with an Arc's planned events.
IIX) General Updates
This will require discussion from current players, but can be introduced throughout the Arc provided they aren't too major.

With a more personal focus being placed on active players by myself, there will be more opportunities to reward exploration and meaningful interactions as that is one of the major goals for the renewed NW. I highly encourage you to discuss any questions or concerns you may have about the new rules in the Konoha Tavern RP General Chat thread. The best part about these new rules is that they will be continuously shifting, and are liable to being changed based on player feedback.

Note: Due to the amount of changes being made, players will have the next few days to pose any questions or concerns they have before the story actually starts. For now I would like you all to get familiar with the new rules. This is also to buy myself time as I'm not finished editing all the relevant Landmark description and other stuff as yet.

± Ninja World Major Update ±

The long wait is over - the Ninja World will undergo a significant update following engagement with the remaining community members and old staff members alike. While the Role-Play community does not bolster the numbers from before, the remaining few of us have taken on the mantle to assure the game and world that we've put blood, sweat, and tears into, remains and continues ever forward.

Zaphkiel unfortunately had to step away for the time-being due to RL, I have however, as promised, gotten another member to assist from beyond the void. @Never will take the mantle of NW Sensei, driving stories, narratives, and engagement for the remaining few. With his guidance, and the input provided, the following aspects will be amended accordingly. An excerpt below refers:

A New Story of this Ninja World will debut. With an initial limited map to consolidate what players we have into an interwoven narrative of their own choosing and the overarching plot. Sickness has ripped through this world and crippled the civilizations that resided in it. The aftermath of this devastating plague has left whatever people remain forming a new way to live, building it up to thrive once again - however a safety lockdown still remains in place and mysteries remain to unravel within the Lightning Mountains, what fractures remain to piece together the solution to rebuild the world once more. What happened to the leaders of the world? Why did they collapse? What nefarious influences caused the isolation of each great nation and for them to easily succumb to this disease?

The Lightning Mountains will be your home now. There will be things to discover in this new storyline and world, set in the same map setting as before. A fresh start to an old end. In the future the map will open as the plot thickens, but for now to get you all involved with the story of the game we thought it’d be easier to start small. You are still able to build your characters narrative on your own, but with influence - to give you that feeling that your story matters as well.

I, (Never), will take on a role akin to a Game Master Storyteller, who will help you push your narratives if you wish and weave your stories into the main plot. Give you the villains or emotional arcs you need for your character to feel like it's progressing and thriving. Give you some pushback that isn’t just your own. More information about this will come soon, I hope to work with you all to produce a fulfilling narrative.

± Training Update ±

Training was a point of contention brought up in the aforementioned discussions with the remaining community. While training was fundamental in our understanding of the RP and the basic 5 + Nin, Gen, Ken, and Tai - most of us have either already gone through the torture and suffering of training the basic 5 for 3 years or faster, with the guides. This remains the same going forward. However, other skills and abilities still required training. I propose and hereby swear in the following changes accordingly:

I) Training will be amended so that training for bios/NW Bios can gain an ability by “Training” for it through the use of the NW Mission System. You, the Player Roleplay a story utilizing X amount of Missions to show your understanding of said acquired ability which is then submitted for grading.

  • If the grader thinks you have a good understanding of the ability (following the specific metric for that ability) and your story is narratively sound, it is accepted and your biography gains the ability accordingly.
  • If the grader deems you have not significantly demonstrated your use of the ability, you will be given constructive feedback and a new threshold of missions to complete on top of the original amount. A technical ability to show off your ability is required which can be explained through exposition or shown in a mock fight you roleplayed with an NPC that suits your story.
  • A well written set of "training missions" will also be awarded bonus Kumi on top of gaining the ability.
  • The option to do regular trainings for advanced fields remains an option, so not everyone who may not be interested in the NW, will not be forced to do so (in which case, we are available to provide the training the old fashioned way).
II) The removal and amendment of arbitrary time-based restrictions on training. The below areas have been amended, effective immediately:
  • Leg Weights - no time requirements.
  • Shinkaigan - no time requirements.
  • Sharingan - brought down to 2 weeks to get MS (considering the aforementioned NW requirement for training)
  • Rinnegan - 2 weeks before passive usage.
  • Tendogan - 2 weeks before passive usage

± Overall ±
While the aforementioned areas will undergo changes and amendments, there is still more to come, with changes to biography combinations and restrictions; a possible overhaul of the Kumi system for better incentives; and a few changes in our customs as well (maybe raise that CJ limit finally ;), to name a few.

I ideally wanted to share the final work-up, but life and time continues moving forward. For those who have remained patient, and diligent, I will create a thread and reward a once-off Kumi incentive for your patience and trust.

Ideas, thoughts and concerns are always welcome. Please reach out via Discord, Konoha Tavern or PMs, if there's anything.
