The translation was referring to Naruto calling the Obito who used to dream about being the Hokage, the 'coolest guy', not the Obito who murdered his family and friends. Funny enough the raw doesn't even say the coolest guy, it's a made up translation in accordance to the actual Japanese raw.

If you want to learn more, just google 'takL naruto forum coolest guy' and search around for a thread where takL translates the raw for English speakers.

What Naruto said was stupid, don't get me wrong, but people also aren't looking at it objectively either. Before that incredibly stupid line, Naruto said that he would never forgive Obito for what he did prior, and that he would have to be punished. Naruto who saw his past and understood his pain, had enough to go on to where he could foolishly state that the Younger Obito who dreamed of becoming the Hokage wasn't such a bad person. The problem was that BZ was offending Obito as a whole.

If people are stupid enough to believe that a father wouldn't kill someone who killed their family, then I don't know what to say. It's like looking at that line and thinking that if Naruto was sent to the past, he wouldn't stop Obito from doing what he did, but instead would be cheering him on. :lol
