Hachibi states he did it at his limit so there's nothing to argue really.

Gai in the 7th Gate is always at full power, regardless of what state he's in beforehand. The Second Gate completely rejuvenates the body, Lee displayed that much against Gaara. Gai even explained it.

Let me just make this clear. Didn't want to go through all these but I have no choice. I'm just going to use points from both the manga and the DB

You can see there. It says: The principle of this Taijutsu is to rapidly increase the body's abilityby opening the "Eight gates" up to and including the 6th gates

There are things to learn from that,

- All the other gates below the 6th have to be to be opened

-The technique would only work when Gai has opened up to the 6th gate

-At the very bottom of the screenshot, you'll see Gai opens the first six gates.

Did you see anything like he can use it without the the gates? No sir. Did you see anything that implies so? No sir.

Then again, we have this:

- By opening the third, you enter into the Extreme Lotus

- Mokutun grip loosened. That only happens if the user gets hit. The user was protected by Susanoo..How did he get hit?

- Why didn't he have Susanoo on afterwards? What happened?
