Feminazis just want woman to become equal to men when it benefits them, but when it comes to stuff like men being able to hit a woman back and both sexes having chivalry they don't complain about that.

Agreed. The double standards with some Feminists are atrocious. IIRC, there was an article a while back where some feminists wanted to lower the physical standards needed to enter the army, just so that women could have a better chance of getting in.(LOL!). What some feminists fail to realise is that there is a fine line between "Gender Differences" and actual "Sexism". Women on average are weaker than men.(fact) So if as a female you know that, why would you start attacking a man, in the hope that he won't hit you back? Contradiction much? And don't get me started on the justice system which causes quite a few problems with such matters.......

As for my opinion about jobs, it's quite simple. If there are 10 free spots in a company for example, then the jobs should go to the top 10 applicants. There should be no rule about there being "at least 1 man" or "at least 1 women" in there.

This statement reeks of ignorance. You simply pay most attention to the extremists and apply their fraction to the whole.

Didn't expect this many ignorant people.

If you think feminism is all or mostly "Women are the best, **** men, the patriachy must fall!", you're either ignorant or stupid.

She asked "Why has the word become an uncomfortable one?" it is simply because of those extremists. Not a single one of us will stand up and say that there shouldn't be equality at least I'd hope so. Everyone deserves the same rights and yes every woman should have the same respect as each man however the ones that speak the loudest and say the more outrageous things like what you've just stated. "Women are the best, **** men, down with the patriarchy." are what make the word feminism a taboo or a buzzword. They use it wrong and thus make people think that everyone who deems them self a feminist has the same views as them which isn't true. Feminists-... true feminists strive for equality nothing more. They don't want to put down another or deem their views and opinions less worthy but the extremists all over the place that scream things like "simply looking at a women is rape" and "men are pigs" shine a terrible light on what people like Emma are trying to do and make it so that average people see them in that light.

No one hates the word feminist no one can say they don't agree with the theory behind it but very few can say they agree with the extremists who say things like "All men are pigs, castrate all men etc" there are those people that say things like that which go against the movement completely and they're all over the internet. You can find them all over tumblr if you look for more then ten minutes. Emma doesn't represent this fraction of people who deem themselves feminist but then go against everything the word represents. It's like calling myself someone who wants equality for everyone then saying but I should be treated better or you should be treated worse. That in and of itself isn't equality. I prefer the term humanism over feminism simply due to the light that has been cast upon it. Taking on the name feminist associates you with the crazies that don't truly want equality.

Most of the replies on here simply prove how far women's rights has to go, all anyone is seeing are internet extremists, the responses here are very sad, they don't seem to realize that the responses apply to all women, including the women in there lives, all anyone here seems to see is some internet rubbish and completely ignoring any serious issue but when it is there family members and friends on the end of harassment or inequity you will be the first to complain, we really are living in an unsympathetic world and considering the people on here are mostly very young, the attitudes towards women's rights are very, very disturbing.

Talking down to them'll help most definitely. The internet extremists aren't just that they're actual people who deem themselves as feminists going against everything it stands for. We're on the internet what do you expect us/them to reference? Anecdotal responses of our own lives?

Unsympathetic seems a bit of a harsh word. I'm sure no one here can actually stand up and say they don't believe in equality and I haven't seen a single person say that. What I have seen is people voice their opinions stating that they can't call themselves something if a faction of it goes against everything the movement and the person stands for. You can agree with parts of a movement and people within the movement or an opinion without agreeing to it. You speak about feminism as a movement for equality and then speak only about only women's rights, why not speak about everyone's right as a human being like Emma had? It just seems weird to do that imo.

LOL, I deleted my post because I read it back and didn't like it but you quoted it. I was expressing my dismay, I wasn't talking down to anyone I apologize if it came across that way. But feminism is about women's rights, when you take women's rights seriously and violence against women seriously and have seen the outcome and horrors that violence and lack of equality creates it is difficult to see such off hand remarks, particularly from the future, and not feel niggled and distressed by it. Women's rights is hard because like any prejudice it is about changing the way people think, people see women with a particular pecking order within society and those opinions are difficult to change

It wasn't a good post, LOl I wish you hadn't quoted it *kicks you in the knee*

I have seen violence against women and I take it very seriously. My mother raised me on her own because my father was abusive and I've always seen her as strong for that. What I'm trying to get across though is it's not always one way, equality is something that needs to be looked at from both sides there are places where women's rights are lacking and there are places where men's rights are lacking. We should be looking at the rights of everyone as a whole not as women and men but as human beings as people. Hence again why I prefer humanism (even though it might not be the correct term =/) over the term feminism. I've never seen a person say "GIVE THE PEOPLE LESS RIGHTS!?" Eh trying to say gender equality is easiest when everyone is treated the same not as separate groups that need separate rights but as the same group that deserves the same rights across the board. Don't know if I'm making sense but it's just how I see it.

There are extremists for and against feminism I can't grasp the concepts of either side because they're both too far'fetched and skewed. I'm definitely for making things more equal I have a little sister and I want her to grow up in a world that won't treat her badly because she's a female but I also don't want them to handle her with kid gloves and treat her like a child when she grows up simple because she is female.

^^ I agree but there has to be people who are a voice for women's rights like Emma who bring to the forum the problems and mindsets that hurt women and cause misery. Unfortunately some women take advantage of feminism to attack men and I despise women like that

As I said though when she spoke she didn't just speak for women she spoke for everyone which is how I feel it should be done. "I think it is right that I should be able to make decisions about my own body... these rights I consider to be human rights." "Gender equality is your issue to because to date I have seen my father's role as a parent being valued less by society despite my needing his presence as a child as much as my mother."

She doesn't just speak for women she speaks for people, everyone. She doesn't just speak about the issues that effect women she speaks about gender stereotypes on both sides and about true equality not just improving women's rights but human rights.

Yes because when you say you are a feminist you will have a chance to see resurfacing bigots who go on and on about "women wanna hit men hurr" or tey want to be superior to men herp" anytime you define yourself with the word. A nice combination of insecurity, arrogance and ignorance; such a humanly sight that is.

All for equality but nowadays feminism is just wanting women to dominate.

I consider myself to be a feminist yes. I don't watch porn, I don't cat-call girls ever, I dislike my male friends making sexist remarks, etc.

I'm pretty sure there's certain personality aspects about me that a lot of feminists would find disqualifying. However, I believe in equality for both genders, sure.
