His reasoning for starting war was stupid, he killed tons of people because his childhood crush died. Mind you, I wouldn't be all that focused on said reasoning, IF there wasn't Rin flashbacks in every other chapter he's in. It was ONE person, he needed to move on, but he decided to pout and dwell on the fact life wasn't fair, which should be obvious in it's own right. All in all, he was good in the beginning, but horrible at the end.

There is also the fact that he did all those crimes without remorse for over 16 years. He worships Rin, but is willing to kill her friends and family without regret. Thinking that she was the only one that cared for him and he was alone when she died. Even though Kakashi and Minato obviously cared. And he only showed regret after he got his ass kicked with the stupid "I lost, I must be wrong" logic.

The worst part is that Kishi wants the reader to feel sorry for him. That's were the hate stems from.

I think a lot of it is misconstruing what Kishimoto wanted the readers to feel with Obito. He was trying convey Rin as a symbol of freedom, love, and tranquility for Obito. His only solace in this hell called reality and the person he cherished most. And when he snapped after her loss, a lot of Westerners turned it into that idea of Obito being sexually interested in a child and starting a war because Rin didn't necessarily requite those feelings.

Happens with a lot of themes in this series, it seems. One reason why it's so polarizing even among longtime followers, I guess. Whether or not the reader connects with that message or enjoys it is a totally different bridge to cross altogether though. The people whose posts you read are under the former part.

I don't like to generalize, but there's a fair chunk of the Naruto audience who pick up this manga for flashy jutsu and battles, mostly ignoring the deeper meanings and contexts within every panel. I feel a lot of those who jump the gun on Obito are the ones who don't concern themselves with the philosophical side of our beloved franchise. Of course there's people who just flat out don't like it, as ever present in this thread, but all the same.

I was just perusing some YouTube reviewers and scrolling through the comments for no real reason... but the Obito hate is over 9000.

Hundreds of people saying he's one of the worst characters ever created, they're glad he's dead, pedophile over Rin, Kishi should have killed him earlier, he doesn't deserve Naruto's forgiveness, Madara should have murdered him... it's a little much. I feel it's even worse than his Juubi jinchuriki days during my lurker time here when every other thread was about how much Obito sucked.

Point being, why didn't more people like Obito? Was his past not sad enough? Were his motives not good enough? Was he not threatening enough as a villain or redeemed enough as an ally? Was he not relatable in all of his misery? I'm not an Obito fanboy, but I thought he played his part well. I'm actually really confused.
I can't understand is why people like to ***** about other peoples opinions. People don't like Obito, so ****ing what, your opinion is the only one that actually matters. And I still think Obito is shit and deserves to die.

-"was he not threatening as a villain"? No, through out his entirety as the main villain (unmasked) his morals, and views were always gray. He was not confident in what he believed and Naruto giving Obito advice through out his whole reign as main villain was painful to watch. Obito's not threatening.

-"was he redeemed enough to be an ally"? Hell no, 10 minutes of Helping Naruto and Sasuke out does not erase the years of terror, the hundreds of deaths he caused, the war he caused, and all the suffering he caused. Hes the reason why Minato, Neji, Konan, Jiraiya, and Kushina are dead. He died irredeemable.

-"Was his misery relatable"? To an extent. People do deal with being friendzoned or having a loved one die, but to the extent to where they are willing to kill thousands, start a war, and put the entire world in an enternal dream just to get that love one back. (PS. Even if Obito got Rin back, he would still be friendzoned, his dream would be hella awkward).

-"Obito played his part well". No, in my opinion his shitty motives and two dimensional personality and one directional thinking made reading Naruto when Obito was main villain a pain. I was begging Kishimoto to kill off Obito ever since we started to get Rin flashbacks and even after he was supposed to die (by established rules inside the manga) he managed to live by death twice, making his death even more satisfying.

I'm glad that Obito is dead, I and say that proudly, but thats just my opinion.

Rofl **** no. My biggest problems with him is his constant, unnecessary plot protection/plot magic/retcon and his constant *****ing- rock crushes everything but his eye survies; he takes a rasengan to his back and a kunai through his stomach and walks it off, he gets his heart and lung literally blasted out and goes on to live long enough to talk, scream and perform jutsu when all other characters get incapacitated; naruto pushes a rasengan into his face but apparently his mask was made of titanium because it shatters but not without completely protecting his face from the whirlwind that showed have ripped his eyes out; he gets 9 bijuu ripped out of him and by some convenience he still lives... Fine kishi explained that one so I let it slide but oh no, gedo is ripped out and boom in comes bz in the nick of time to keep him alive. But that's not the end, he then has enough power to retain bz and as if that wasn't enough he goes and plucks bijuu out of madara while madara just stands there conveniently not resisting. Then there's all the shitty mechanics of his retarded kami as if some how being the first and only uchiha in history to have an s/ť wasn't a big enough asspull... Not to mention how he's been using that MS s/ť with his 2 and 3 tomoe.

There's just so much wrong with his character it's not even funny. Tobi was cool up till the Kate summit after which his bs started to show like ripping off his arm like it's nothing and surving his arm being blown off.

At no point in time was I "*****ing" about other people's opinions. I merely asked for feedback, sensibly put, on why people feel the way they do. Thanks for the response, but you don't have to get so worked up over it. Just looking for some insight that isn't tainted by YouTube stupidity like "Thumbz uppp if u h9 0Bitoe :)))))))))" that I saw.

This is quite true, Obito has survived more fatal blows than anyone.

I'm still twisted over how Naruto and Jiraiya's Rasengan is either death or crippling injury on contact (Pain bodies, Kabuto, Yura), but Obito tanked a Flying Raijin Level 2 Rasengan with no damage.

@bold... Obito had a good life before rin died. He had friends, he wasn't hated, and he was a good kid who helped out the villagers. His only problem was that he wasn't talented so he lost a lot to guy, kakashi and the like. His life was far from hell... Even Madara said he chose obito because obito was so kind and happy and good hearted before rins death.
Skip ahead to rins death where his life is still the same, the village is the same, his sensei is the same, kakashi is the same, and he's gotten even stronger with the fact that he unlocked his tomoes. There was just one thing that changed in his life, Rin. Right from there he started to call the world hell and seeked solace in the dream world madara spoke of. He went so far into his depression that he even tried to kill his friends and sensei.
Oh, and obviously obito was sexually interested in Rin. The guy was 'in love' with her. What do you think that even entails? It means you're emotionally and sexually interested in the person.

This is quite true, Obito has survived more fatal blows than anyone.

Worst part is minato's rasengan showed significantly more power than anything jiraiya or naruto dished out. Minato's own was so strong that it ripped off the flesh on his back and tore off his arm.

Well I can honestly whole heartedly say that I became a Obito fan this week. His death was nicely done and it really made me feel for the guy.

My apologies, I just really hate Obito. I've never felt so strong about about one character. Obito made Naruto (series) bad in my eyes, as if he ruined it. So every time I get worked up about Obito, its in defense of the Naruto series.

That and a couple of other reasons

I wanted him to be Izuna.

Absolutely . I always predicted he was Izuna .

Oh, I wished for Izuna so bad! He would have been a perfect match, and the Obito story wouldn't have been modified. I believe the Kakashi gaiden message was too good as it was, so I wanted it to be left untouched.

LOl I also thought it was Izuna.. He knew things which only Madara or his brother would know and still he didn't feel like Madara but pretending to be him.

Still I really don't see how him turning out to be Obito was that bad. For like half an hour yea.. I was like : "damn it was too obvious" .. But then I started thinking that if it was any other Uchiha Itachi would have been on to him. Obito was nice and he died. Perfect guy who Uchiha police force won't suspect as he when he died his abilities were not known and Kakashi never showed anything more than normal sharingan received from him.

Most of the problem with conflict between Uchihas and rest of Konoha after Minato's death arise because no one could figure out how Kyuubi was released. For Uchihas's POV they didn't do it nor knew anyone who could. (Obito not on radar even remotely.) Rest of the villagers wouldn't believe that it wasn't an Uchiha. Both were right.

I wonder if Itachi ever wondered If Obtio was the guy responsible for Kyuubi attack or was too overwhelmed with other issues to think about it. Dunno if he could even do something about it.

Anyway it fit when I thought about it this way.

And NB going crazy helped it I guess. I was the one cleaning up all the flame wars between theorists and the day Tobi's ID was revealed... (-_-);

People trying to catch a plane to Japan to kill Kishi... (Scorps.. :p)

When you see so many crazy people complaining your perspectives get a realignment altogether.. Nothing was even 1/10 as bad the complaints about it over and over. ...

People hate because hating on net is international time pass today.

You're questioning why people hate obito? Surely you must have someone you hate too OP. Difference in preferences.

The people on youtube...well on the internet just love to argue and bash each other lol. The hate for Obito is especially strong on king of lightning's videos. Now people question his reasoning saying he did it JUST because a girl he loved died. I've got a feeling people say this because in real life people use each other and it can be very hard to understand TRUE love. It's not just because Rin died but also the way she was KILLED. It's not like she died normally but she died in a horrific way. Now lets say Obito stayed good or changed his mind, that black zetsu would of just forced Obito to use Rinne tensei to revive Madara. If obito's reasons are stupid then i think sasuke's are much worse. When he wanted to destroy Konoha, he wanted to take out the elders yes. BUT he also wanted to take out INNOCENT people in Konoha who had NOTHING to do with itachi's burden but still Sasuke's character is dark so if he turned good back then it might of been boring. This character hate is absolute nonsense. People just can't enjoy the anime/manga for what it is there is toooo much negativity and no one is gonna find peace then. IMO Obito's reasons are unique. Had tobi been Izuna or anyone else it might of been boring. I find it funny how this one character Obito uchiha gets people all worked up. Haha who knows, this might of been kishi's intentions. Obito uchiha is a Unique character with MULTIPLE personalities. Love him or hate them, there will be a side of him you have loved, be it Kid obito/masked man/ Goofy tobi/ i am madara/ i am no one/ i am Obito uchiha.

Naruto says Obito is The Coolest Guy.
I could give a rats ass about what anyone else thinks.
