You know Girls does read shounen manga, but usually they did that for the Bishounen/Pretty Boys,
like Kuroko No Basket, Prince Of Tennis, Gintama and Haikyuu,
There are manga like that, who provide fanservice for the female readers....
but if you;re looking for shounen battle manga that does the female character justice then you better stop now,
i mean to begin with all this argument about "manga that doesn't demean their female characters but takes them seriously" is completely subjective yes ?
And there also the fact that you're looking for a decent/serioulsy taken female character in shounen manga,
do you even know what shounen means ? of course you knew yes ?
this entire genre is aimed at boys, so what do you think their 1st concern when making the manga/anime ? its " will the boys watch/read it ? are they going to like it ? to an extent that they're going to buy every single one of the volume/BD ?
see ? they don't care about what the female think, because in the end of the day they're making a series for boys in a magazine that dedicated for boys, they can do whatever they want to the female character as long as the boys like it,
Female readers have their own marketing field and its called shoujo and Yaoi
or you can always try some slice of life anime with romance in it.
Not all girls only like romance novels, I find a lot of shoujo unpalatable because they don't take the story seriously, I do like some shoujo but most are simply soap opera's and I can't stand soapy drama.
Also not all girls "only" read manga for the cute boys, granted we may have a favorite pin up but that doesn't mean we are not reading for the story.
I understand that shonen is aimed at male readers, however in written novels there are also genre's aimed at male readers and yet a lot of those deliver strong female roles. I find it disappointing that Manga Ka's are becoming so shallow that they feel it would threaten there readers to have female characters with a point to them.
I also find it disappointing that the publishers are failing to recognize the growing market.
I we look back at Manga there are several older Manga's that represent the female role better than modern Manga, Gundam Wing, Tenchi and Dragon Ball all had female characters that had some significant role.
Ah, such is life, I guess for Manga to evolve will take some years, for me this is about the capability of the writer.
BTW: I'm not looking for manga, I simply wished to start a discussion on the subject, as I said for me this is all about the capability of the writer, a Manga Ka with the writing capability to create in a manga where the male lead is obviously the strongest but where the female character has a significant role whithin the story, they are out there Buso Renkin is a decent example. It is not about what they wear, as pointed out by me and others, girl are quick enough to dress our favourite boys in a least as possible.
Look, I' m sorry, I worded the discussion for this thread terribbly, I'm not good at it, I shoulded start threads:O
