After seeing the humiliating outfit Kubo stuck Orihime in this week, (what happened to her long skirts and T - shirts?), I decided to post this thread.

We all know that shonen is a male dominated genre of Manga but there are a LOT of girls who read shonen Manga as well. I was wondering which Manga you think best represents female characters in a way that makes them important to the plot and not just eye candy for the guys?

A manga that doesn't demean there female characters but takes them seriously?

In Naruto most of the girls are shallow, selfish, vain and bossy, Hinata and Ten - Ten are the only real exceptions and Ten - Ten has no personality and Hinata is the generic Manga shy girl.

In Bleach, though Kubo makes his female characters strong, he seems so obsessed with making them top heavy it can be difficult to take them seriously at times.

Akame Ga Kiru. All the characters are pretty important in that manga.

Eh, its a given in this genre. While yes, it may not be morally right. We can't control what the mangaka do with their works and their characters.

Lord Eternal - LOL, sorry I wasn't being insulting to Hinata, I was just representing her in her most basic form

Dark Link - No, no, no, this is NOT a feminist discussion, boys are represented in girls Manga in away that appeals to girls and most likely disgusts boys and so obviously in manga aimed at boys the girls are represented to appeal to guys, I' am just asking which Manga you think, represents female characters in a role that makes them important to the plot and not just eye candy for male readers.

✦Nightmare King - Actually you would be surprised, an awful lot of girls read shonen manga, not all girls like stories with lots of pink and bows you know

Don't expect anything from Kishi cause he literally forgot about Sakura's character development, and since then, never expect her to be of any great relevance.

Lan Fan and Riza Hawkeye from Full Metal Alchemist. They are supporting characters, but how the mangaka shaped their character, I think he did well.

Misora Naomi from Death Note. Though she's a side character, I like how she got so close to figuring Yagami's true identity.

Ghost in the Shell's Motoko Kusanagi is a superb female lead, intelligent female character who can fight and manage a group of men, but she wears skimpy clothing and has lots of nude panels. ._.

Maybe get out of that same bubble : Read , AoT , Akame Ga Kill , Code Breaker , Coppelion , Deadman Wonderland . Watch Monster , Psycho Pass , Ergo Proxy etc if you want equality in the series & the females are actually important & stronger than the males , is all about the equality .

There are well written girls in Shounen, in this particular one Tsunade and Konan come to mind

As for Bleach for the most part they are strong and independent except for Oreohime(but she's like Bleach's Sakura except maybe less haters but still quite a few)

As for The rest of Shounen... read more manga
