:overjoy: i win!! XD just kidding

thats fine its up to you i don't force my religion on people just as i expect not to be forced feed someone else's religions..

like i said religion at its core is a belief system...whether you believe in a norse, roman or greek god(examples), God, or that no God exists..its still a belief

XD that is correct..just outta curiosity do you know how "ragnaroc" begins?

Don't remember much about it, but when I saw your name for the first time on NB I searched it again up in my book of mythology because I remembered it.
I remember something about a dog and a god who were sealed for a long time but finally escaped. I also remember that everyone died, except the tree of life and 2 humans.
I could look it up in my book:I found it, it was Loki who escaped and it was not a dog, but a wolf Fenrir.

I'd like to believe there is a God.

Without God, we only have a temporary existence in a temporary Universe, and all our Hystory, acheivements, growth, evolution, everything will end up meaningless as it's all erased in a Cosmic Black Hole, or whatever end awaits this Universe.

Without God there is no reason to be good or kind, since compassion would only be emotions generated by chemical exchanges in our brains neurons.

Without God there is no reason for me to be anything other than selfish and self serving, why should I care about my fellow man, they are only biological machines destined to die and become food for worms and microbes anyway.

While I cannot prove the existence of God, as I see it, without God everything eslse boils down to a pathetic temporary suffering existence, dominated by illusions created by our brains.

I hope there is a God, and like in Naruto, I am going to entrust my future to that hope.

Lets apply humanism to the aforementioned abortion debate. The tenets of humanism are that we can rationally, without need of spirituality, decide what is best (right and wrong) for all humanity and then conform society based on that best interest of all.

The Humanist may have no objection to partial birth abortion since the unborn is not defined as a Human. (This is a form of late term abortion where the baby is partially birthed with the head still inside it's mother. The brain is then extracted thus killing it.)

For the humanist since the woman in question is the sole decider, and since the baby was not in fact technically born, the practice of PBA is not a problem. The theist on the other hand would say that the existence of God and accountability to God proscribes such acts.

Slavery too would be abhorrent to most humanists, as long as they see the slave or his race as being human. This dilemma then leads other humanists go to the extent of seeking "human rights" for animal species. They would outlaw consumption of meat because killing animals is inhumane to them.

The humanist might want to abolish animal experimentation in pharmaceuticals, but paradoxically happily accept destruction of embryos for stem cell research. To my view humanism tries to define right and wrong based on arbitrary standards. It really has no head or tail.

The thrust of my Postulates is to ask the question, if there is no God, if we are just biological machines, if the Universe and life itself is just a random accident whose disappearance is assured, why should anything matter at all, why should humanism matter? Why would suicide be wrong? Isn't right and wrong just arbitrary and emotional concepts?

I personally have always believed in God since I was a child. I have never questioned the correctness of notions as compassion, and love, and kindness. If I were to personally stop believing in God, my core emotional state would probably not change either and I would still be loving, and kind, and compassionate. I however believe that the questions set forth in my postulates are valid to ponder, to ask people why they believe what they believe in the abcence of faith in God.

In my postulates, I affirmed an opinion that our existence, or that of our universe without God would be sad and meaningless. Why?

Think about this, What would be the point of having ever existed (as individuals or as a species on planet Earth), if it's all going to be erased permanently when our lives end, or when the Universe itself ends? At the end of the Universe there would be nothing left, nothing to mark our achievements, our struggles, our maturation through eons of trial and mistakes. Why exist at all if existence itself is ultimately futile?
At least if there is a God, we would have souls, and then there can be a continuation of us in some way or fashion. This is why I stated that I hope there is a God.

Let me address Kindness and compassion. TRUE you do not need religion, or God in order to develop those fine and lofty ideals. BUT once again, I ask the question WHY?

Why (ultimately) should anyone care about anybody else, if in the end where all just simply only physical biological machines. Why would it not make sense in life to only seek ones own personal benefit alone, even if that personal benefit sometimes appears to be, or is indeed altruistic. In fact, why place value on human life at all?

Again, I am not saying that atheists or humanists are like this, nor am I saying that I myself am like this, I am merely asking the question WHY? I repeat, Note that I am not saying that one should not place value on life, nor am I claiming that atheists, and humanist do not place value on life. I am just asking why.

What possible indisputable argument could one proffer in order to defend the value of life, if life is just a random event anyway, and if we are only biological machines that are possesed with neural pathways which simulate the illusion of consciousness.

As I see it if there is no eternal soul, no God to guarantee that soul's existence, then it is very difficult to ascribe meaning ultimately, to existence itself.

I hope I have somehow explained things better. It's just that these concepts are hard to put into words that evoke the same meaning as intended, to other people. And even now I am uncertain that I have fully well represented my thoughts.

I don't believe in a God and I certainly don't need one to give my a soul. I don't believe in a God, but I believe in a soul. Yes, I believe life has no meaning what so ever. The difference is that I believe that each individual person has to give meaning to his own life. How sad, stupid or crazy that meaning could be.

They way you explained things, it seems to me that people are puppets. They need someone to control them, otherwise they just fall dead.

Btw, if you want to explain things clear, use simple words. But I got the feeling that you used those kind of words on purpose.

Odin had one eye, but he stabbed it out himself I think. He wanted to have knowledge of the world, but he had to sacrifice something so he took away his own eye. At least I think it was something like that.

PS: I love this thread, except for the guy who started cursing because he find this thread against the rules.

One day as I pondered Cosmology (the physics of how the universe was created), I realise that the ultimate end of our Universe is assured. Earth will die in a Solar Nova, and Everything in the physical universe will eventually perish.

I asked myself what would have been the point of our existence, if our fate is to vanish forever with no-one to remember us because no-one will exist. There won't even be a Universe for there to be anyone left.

I found this end state very sad, and I asked myself what meaning is there as a species, on a planet that is doomed?

Then I looked at our lives as individuals. If atheist are correct and there isn't a God, then we must be just biological automatons without souls. If this is true, then I asked myself (strictly logic, no emotions at all), why live, why be alive? Why care about anyone or anything. Ultimately I was unable to find a good answer that was based on logic alone without some emotion involved. Living just for the sake of living wasn't logical.

My conclusion was that if we have no value besides that of machines capable of emotion (imagine a robot with AI to simulate emotion, is it alive, and what is its value), then that would be a sad fate. It would be better if there was more substance to us, it would be better if we had souls that were eternal. If we were to have souls, then there would need to be a God, a source from whom the souls emantated.

These thoughts led me to Hope that there is a God, and to my mind, life and existence would have more meaning if it was not all going to end abruptly and permanently some day.

Oh Vengeance... So poethic... and so full of cr*p

You have absolutly no faith on your own strenghts! You live your life deppending on a being that may, and most probably, not exist. You say God brings value to our lifes. Well i say my atheist theory gives more value to life then yours.

I have absolutly no need to have a god, I'm not a puppet! Don't say my life worths less because I don't believe on some man's creation.

What I belive is that we make our own value, and if you need something to force you to be good, then I must say: That's not the best way to achieve it.

Be more confident on yourself, and on Mankind

Just drop it.
