Everyone's existence is different. Descartes felt he existed to ponder about certain ideals. Others exist to guide people on the right path.

Or you can look at the statement by Descartes pointing out what makes a human a human. Only a human being possesses the ability to ponder about facts, while animals learn through behavior and results. Thus, if you are thinking you exist to theorize.

Dumb question. Whether we're true flesh and bone or just the figment of some greater being's imagination (I highly doubt the latter), we still exist. We may exist as physical beings, or we may simply exist as a thought, either way we exist somehow.

If we are just part of something's imagination, we must all be part of the same imagination, as we're all here together, able to interact and whatever. So, we'd all exist as parts of something's imagination.


On another note, my puny brain is unable to comprehend what this question truly means.

Honestly, if you're that hung up on if you're real or not well-... I don't know what to tell you. Look at it this way roughly 107,602,707,791 people have been born into this world. Not a single one made it very far, a few of them did very important things in life things to be remembered for then again most of them did nothing but survive for some time then die. We live, then we die everything else is just a means to an end. Just things, things that don't matter much. Honestly most aren't remembered, and being remembered is pointless as eventually everyone ends at the same place. Laying awake at night, hoping, wondering, and praying that you exist is-... well pointless in my opinion. Does it really matter if you exist? What if you're simply a computer simulation or a thought in some higher being's imagination, will it devalue what you've done, the things you've said or the world around you?

The fact that you can think, or feel isn't enough o_o you want someone to tell you that because you think and feel you exist. Simply having a consciousnesses should confirm that for you. Do you really need me or anyone else to tell you, you exist cause you'll get so many mixed answers from people who like me just feel like ranting about nothing

Any idea exists. It's a real thing inside your mind. Just like love, anger and hate exist all of them are things that have no definite, shape form or area but are there.

This may be the most irrational thing I've asked up here. But Descartes said, "I think therefore I am". How does this statement verify one's existence? How could one determine if their existence is real? This question just annoys me. Thoughts please.

Exactly what's real to you?? everything is just some electrical signals in our brains. According to what we call existence, Yes we do exist. Our knowledge only works on the things the We call "real", The space we live in! If you think about the real meaning of what we call "real" there will be no answer to your question, nothing verifies if we physically exists. We humans are working on creating life from inside computer, the programs which can learn things, and evolve on their own much like us. If we succeed, for us they will be just some other programs but for them things will be a bit different, They will be able to feel pain have their own senses ect. Won't that be a life form too?

This is the cheapest form of wisdom. Of course we exist. You want something to verify that? Smash your hand. Does it hurt? Yes it does, so you exist.

If something's imaginary friends start taking a life of their own then they exist, not just in someone's mind.

On another note, I realized robots will never have a problem taking us over if we sit around thinking if we exist or not.
