That I completely agree on. But then factor in how widespread religion is compared to the other mediums. You can't just magically create something like religion over night which has a near global following in terms of populations for each religion. While removing religion doesn't necessarily solve the problem, it takes away the largest medium negative propaganda ever had. Look at the countries which envelop themselves entirely in religious constitution. The middle east and many countries around it are all very primitive and backwards compared to countries like England, America, Canada. All countries with high Agnostic/Atheistic populations along with people who claim to be Christian but barely practice. There's a direct correlation here. I'm not trying to force this on you. I actually like discussing this.
Agreed you can't create something like religion over night. But a replacement can be created very quickly especially with today's media technology. Getting people to believe in something is very easy. While I dislike hitler very much he did say something that is important to remember, he believed that by creating a small lie and repeating it over and over the population will believe it to be true. This is exactly how the Nazi party came to power. While they did lots of illegal activity the German people did vote for them.
Hitler's brain washing was achieved in a few short years in the early 20th century when the internet didn't exist. If someone wants to create a new medium now and has a huge amount of resources that religious people had in the past, then wouldn't even take 20 years for the medium to be established. Abolishing religion would not only spread hatred but also would be a temporary solution.
How do you define backwardness? The communist party for example was heavily atheistic and had zero tolerance for religion. Yet they are responsible for the highest number of human deaths in recorded history. Stalin and lenin alone were responsible for the deaths of over 30 million people, mostly peasants. Mao took this further and killed over 50 million western chinese who were mostly religious. In total next to 100 million people were killed by fundamentally atheist ruled countries. If the slaughter of millions of one's own people isn't backward I don't know what is.
If I was to use the example above as an example of how countries ruled by atheists are then atheism and the denial of religion are the worst things to ever happen to humanity. By your view atheism should be abolished as well. You see my point? It is not the idea but the people that are the problem.
