All we know is that it's an original story and that it is indeed an adaptation of Ikemoto's manga. We could very well see Naruto Gaiden and the One Shot being adapted before the Boruto stuff rolls around. That would give the manga more room to get ahead.
From my perspective I wouldn't put much thought into it or 'hope' in the better sense.
They have shown time and time again that the reason for this continuation is to make money. No insight on a collective story to keep Naruto going because it's interesting. Rather let's just do this because the market is still hot for them.
Cause they know damn well Naruto making a comeback 5-10 years from now might not work, so let's rip it off while they are still eager.
That's how I see it.
Canon Manga going on, so let's make an anime adaption to get money from two sources :lol
Next they'll announce another Boruto Movie that'll tie them both or some shit to draw even more money onto the scene before it ends in 5 years or so.
This is all collectively apart of a bigger cash grab scene. They are milking Naruto everywhere; plays, live action films, etc.
Soon it'll be Boruto's turn if these are successful.
