Yes, Sasuke wanted to question Deidara about Itachi. He wanted to gain information from him so he didn't go for the kill. He kicked Deidara's ass to the point where the only thing he could do to have a chance at killing Sasuke was to blow himself up. Sasuke drove him to that point. Sasuke won.

Correct. He is too well-written for a lot of people to understand. You gotta have prior knowledge of some literature for a character like Sasuke.
