First of all, Minato DID have to seal the Kyuubi away since it was his responsability towards the village, you know being Hokage and everything - a Hokage can't afford to put his personal feelings above the village, it goes against the principle of being Hokage. Yeah MAYBE there was another way but you name me one that doesn't involve at least him or Kushina dying - a realistic one preferably.
Secondly, if Itachi simply did not murder his entire clan, Sasuke would've grown up normally - sure the Uchiha were planning something but who knows what would've happened. He didn't do everything he could to keep Sasuke away from Madara, he did the exact opposite. Sasuke never needed the MS, he never had to live his life in the persuit of vengeance. If Sasuke had kept his family and the people he loved - they would be there to protect him and he maybe he would've even become a proper Konoha shinobi, afterall he IS a genius as they say. Whole Uchiha clan against Madara is a safer bet then murdering them all except your little baby brother and sending him into a life of snake rape and utter useless vengeance.
And on the point of not murdering the Uchiha, the third Hokage maybe didn't even have to die with the Uchiha clan around when Orochimaru decided to invade.
Im just saying...
Just as Minato had to seal the Nine-Tailed Fox, so too did Itachi have to kill the Uchiha clan. If he had not, civil war would have broken out, and countless people would have died, all for the sake of the Uchiha's self-interest. That's what would have happened - even the Third Hokage, perhaps the most legendary of Hokages, could do nothing to stop this impending disaster. It was Itachi's responsibility towards the village that he kill the Uchiha clan - closing the book on the clan's history with his own hand was the only way to go.
Sarutobi did not die with the Uchiha clan - the clan was murdered seven years before the start of the series, while Sarutobi died during Orochimaru's invasion of Konoha, which took place during the Chunin Exams before the three year timeskip. Both had to do what they did - if they hadn't, Konoha would no longer exist. They both tried to prevent their village from being harmed again, but they were unsuccessful. It doesn't matter what preference one has for a character, at least this must be recognized.
