[Discussion] Why do people underrate Crocodile so much?

I'm kinda on the fence on whether Croc. is overrated/underrated, at times I feel that he's underrated but sometimes people overrate the f*ck out of his strength. It's hard to say but people do underrate him because of his early defeat and on the other side people overrate him from what he did at MF.

Surely what he did at MF is the most accurate measuring facility we have, considering it's his most recent appearance other than looking at a newspaper article

When someone says something you disagree with, its always comes down to wank....Why is that the only conclusion you come to in like every discussion? Not that I want answers of course cause it wouldn't make a difference.

Honestly, the biggest part of this how Crocodile has been portrayed thus far, especially at Marineford. If Oda wanted him to be a comparative weakling, he sure as hell wouldn't have had him clash with Doflamingo, one of the strongest Shichibukai (second to Mihawk imo), and Mihawk himself, without completely getting his ass handed to him. When Oda wants a character to seem weak, he shows it - Moriah getting smacked around by Jinbe, Buggy's obvious weakness during the battle, etc. - and he certainly didn't show Crocodile as weak.

Honestly, the biggest part of this how Crocodile has been portrayed thus far, especially at Marineford. If Oda wanted him to be a comparative weakling, he sure as hell wouldn't have had him clash with Doflamingo, one of the strongest Shichibukai (second to Mihawk imo), and Mihawk himself, without completely getting his ass handed to him. When Oda wants a character to seem weak, he shows it - Moriah getting smacked around by Jinbe, Buggy's obvious weakness during the battle, etc. - and he certainly didn't show Crocodile as weak.

And his clash with Jozu, in which he apparently got beaten to sh*t, although everyone forgets all that happened was he had a cut on his forehead. People also forget to compare Diamond + Haki (strong enough to deflect the worlds strongest sword slash) to Alabasta Luffy's punches. There's a HUGE difference. Crocodile was definitely nerfed in Alabasta.

Not many people know this, but Oda never planned on making the Manga over 500 chapters long until he made Skypiea go on for over 50 chapters. So Crocodile would've been one of the landmark and incredibly powerful villains in the manga had Oda not changed his plans. Which is why he is so much stronger in MF. That's his real strength as it goes in accordance to proportions laid out by the storyline.

The difference is, Crocodile needed to be defeated at Alabasta - thus, he had to lose, or else the plot would be over right there. He didn't have to do anything impressive at Marineford, so the plot wasn't relying on him anymore. It would carry on as usual if Mihawk or Doflamingo totally kicked his ass.

Yeah croc needed defeated but luffy still won because he ended up stronger than what croc was portrayed to be. PLot brought croc back in order to make him relevant for MF and presumably his appearnce in the new world. Also croc stopped aces execution and he saved luffy from akainu,, so he was necessary because oda made him necessary. Im not sure who woulda have stopped aces execution at that point, plot demanaded that someone stop it and so croc was used. therefore plot buffed croc.
