I see what you mean. But imo, the term prodigy is simply used the wrong way by Kishimoto. People like Naruto who easily adapt stuff have more talent than people such as Sasuke.
- shitt in performing a normal clone
couple hours later
- Master in Tajuu kage bunshin
^^ This dude is unrivaled in talent imo, I would say that the "non-prodigies" in the manga are the real prodigies.
Rock lee = Mastered the 5 gates, something beyond Neji.
Naruto = becoming stronger than Sasuke and equalling Sasuke in skills in matter of couple of days/ months
I think he refer to person who is smart in learning thing more than a hardworker.
But some times we have to considere the circumstance they are in. Like no way for Naruto who was hate by every single person in the village and no one teach him anything bar kindergarten and academy to throw a kunai like a pro. So we cant expect Naruto to be smart at the begining w/o any logic to back it up. Lee was luckier than Naruto to have Gai, but he also started w/o anything and we do not even know if he is orphan or not.
So i think like you mentioned, doesnt matter who goes through what, just feats prove your talent...

You go overboard with Naruto, the only time he displayed genuis/prodigy feats was when he mastered Kage Bunshin in a few hours.

Sasuke learned Fire Style jutsu in a week on his own, and by 12 could use various Fire techniques, at 13, in 2 weeks he started using, and developed his second nature element,Lightning Style enough to master the Chidori on top of attaining Lee's high speed taijutsu in 2 weeks.
Furthermore by 16 he knew various Lightning style techniques, and even created his own - Kirin, which literally uses Lightning instead of just turning chakra into Lightning.
Those in the Jounin class are usually the only ones able to use two elements.

Sasuke was using 2 by 13, and mastered 2 by 16 whereas Naruto started using his first element at 16 and only used it for 2 jutsu - Wind Rasengan (which he used like once), and RasenShuriken.
Naruto's not comparable to Sasuke in this regard. Naruto didn't become stronger than Sasuke, nor did he ever surpass him in skill.
Sasuke had the following people :
- Fugaku
- Itachi
All his skills were learned from the above, either by training with them, or immitating them. Naruto by himself learned a technique that was Kinjutsu within few hours.
^^^^ Naruto also didn't recieve any legit training until Kakashi, who focused on Sasuke more.. so it was until Jiraiya that he had a legit trainer. ^^^^^ He had no guidance. Sasuke had guidance.
Sasuke > Naruto starting of part 1
Naruto > Sasuke ending of part 1 (Or are you one of the guys who is gonna make an excuse by saying "He won" despite Naruto clearly not attempting for the kill, and then changing the course of his rasengan to Sasuke's forehead protector to prove the point that he can match Sasuke)
^^^ Naruto's talent is unmatched, its not going overboard just making a statement from what has been shown about him.
At age 16: He had Orochimaru the man who knows many jutsus teaching him various jutsus
At age 16: Naruto was above Kakashi in base skills
Only in the few scenes that were shown, Itachi told Sasuke next time... He did shuriken practice with him.. and both even went on their own little missions. Itachi trained Sasuke, not matter how you look at it.Sasuke wanted to train with Itachi but Itachi always told him maybe next time, and all Fugaku did was show Sasuke the hand seals for Fire Ball jutsu, Sasuke learned the technique on his own.
This,and the next few pages.

You just proved Fugaku taught him above. The Uchiha were killed, no one taught Sasuke how to use all the other Fire Style techniques, much less the Sharingan which Sasuke showed to be highly skilled in using, as noted by Orochimaru, and Kakashi.

1. Nice Sasuke has a KKG on, Naruto didn't... Naruto used Kurama's power to heal the wound.Naruto would have lost twice before the Final Rasengan, and Chidori clashed if the Kyuubi didn't save him.
1)Sasuke stabs a Chidori right through Naruto.

Notice how after Sasuke hit Naruto with Chidori,he noted on Naruto's condition, about how can no longer fight, and rightfully thinks he won, then the Kyuubi heals him + powers Naruto up.
Then later Naruto himself notes on his condition thinking Sasuke won, then the Kyuubi powers him up.
Cool, Naruto was still stronger than Sasuke. Sorry that Naruto wasn't born with a KKG?Naruto could not on his own use the Kyuubi's chakra until he fought the Kyuubi, and attained KCM. Before then he only used it whenever the Kyuubi decided to give him power, hence Naruto Vs Sasuke at the end of Part 1, and sometimes Naruto would ask the Kyuubi for power, which the Kyuubi would then give him some, hence chapter 95 during training, and Vs Neji, and Vs Gaara.
Why not?? part of his body.So we can't give Naruto one tails mode as if that's something he could use normally, like Kage Bunshin.
Naruto's talent is so unrivalled that after 3 years of training he had better base skills than Kakashi Hatake. Similarly how Sasuke was gaining power ups through those multiple arcs right??Naruto's talent is so unrivalled that after 3 years of training with Jiraiya he only learned how to make a bigger Rasengan (better chakra control), improved Taijutsu skills, and fodder Genjutsu counter (chakra control), and had to spend multiple arcs training to catch up to Sasuke.
False, chakra control has to do with precision and with ones own chakra. Kurama nowhere in that quote mentioned "chakra control", making up stuff now...During the final battle, the Kyuubi said Sasuke's chakra control was almost unrivalled, and put him on the Sage's level.

Sasuke learned alot on his own. Sasuke spent 3 years training with Orochimaru but he still learned things on his own, things even Orochimaru never saw.

Also, Sasuke has said he did research on Orochimaru in order to defeat him.

Do you think Orochimaru taught Sasuke how to do this?

And his other Snake Stuff? Nope, Sasuke learned it on his own.

@Bold, all Jiraiya did was show Naruto the process of Rasengan, and he did the rest on his own. *_*. Fire ball jutsu is based on signs, signs are the important thing for it. Furthermore, Fugaku wouldn't have taught him the signs, if he knew that Sasuke isn't ready for it.
In the scan you provided, Sasuke failed in the fireball jutsu.
You just proved Fugaku taught him above.
1. Nice Sasuke has a KKG on, Naruto didn't... Naruto used Kurama's power to heal the wound.
2. He powered up yuppp.
3. And now Naruto's power overpowered Sasuke's KKG, forcing Sasuke to rely on Curse mark
What you proved: Sasuke with Sharingan was capable of taking on an enraged Naruto with little kyuubi boost like he had against Neji ( a bit stronger than that time tho). And then once Naruto's extra power started kicking in, Sasuke had to start using the Curse mark.
^^^^^^at the end Naruto showed mercy and Sasuke won the fight due to that mercy. Kurama was part of Naruto, and I have no desire to get into this debate about that.
Cool, Naruto was still stronger than Sasuke. Sorry that Naruto wasn't born with a KKG?
Why not?? part of his body.

False, chakra control has to do with precision and with ones own chakra. Kurama nowhere in that quote mentioned "chakra control", making up stuff now...
He compared him combining the chakra of the tailed beasts together to Rikudou's. <<< Ems Madara was able to do this with Kurama.
And then on the other hand you have Naruto handling most of Earth's Natural energy in his attacks.
^^^^^^^^^^ all this stuff means he trained more than Naruto.
nope, he was taught the seals by Fugaku while ago, and had been practicing since then. << He mastered an C-rank jutsu tho.Again, All Fugaku did was show him the signs, Fire Style is a nature element. Nature elements usually take years for Shinobi to learn how to use. Sasuke mastered Fire Ball jutsu in a week, and learned every other Fire Technique on his own.
I didn't ignore it, I simply put it Sharingan = Kyuubi... Sasuke had no chance without the sharingan, and then he had no chance without the Curse mark. You either completely missed the point on the Naruto Vs Sasuke part, or just choose to ignore it. The Kyuubi saved Naruto twice. The Kyuubi, not Naruto.
Without the Kyuubi deciding to save Naruto twice, he would have lost to Sasuke who had no one to save him.
Because everytime he rages, he will trigger the 9-tails power, whether you like it or not. Its part of who he is. Him mastering it has nothing to do with it.And Naruto had not yet attained control of the Kyuubi's power, so why in the world should we count One Tails as if that's something he could use at anytime?
Where did you get this crap from? "far ahead".. uh no he wasn't. Unless you are referring to their small confrontation where Sasuke made the first move, while Naruto was attempting to talk or w.e?Sasuke was far ahead of Naruto by the start of Part 2, and continued to develop throughout Part 2 while Naruto was trying to catch up to him. Sasuke was not trying to catch up to Naruto.
Yup, he has the rinnegan, just like Madara in his first time fused Kurama with himself.. Sasuke with more power did it on a wider scale, same technique applied on a wider scale by a user who had more power.Sasuke's use of the Bijuus chakra was on par with the Sage, he perfectly adapted it into his own power despite this being his first time ever using it.
Sure but where is it stated Sage is the best?? Feat of Hagoromo controlling all the Senjutsu of earth? yea didn't think so.Naruto's skill with chakra was never noted to be on the Sage's level.
nope, he was taught the seals by Fugaku while ago, and had been practicing since then. << He mastered an C-rank jutsu tho.

If I remember correctly Kakashi said that simple combine shape and nature transformation requires extreme talent.Only Naruto succeeded to combine an element with the Rasengan, but he basically skimmed through the talent portion needed to create it, and used the clones to boost his experience and learn what the normal human-ninja couldn't in such a short amount of time.
Naruto = becoming stronger than Sasukein matter of couple of days/ monthsand equalling Sasuke in skills
Maybe they get confused between porridge and prodigy wordI don't think people understand what it takes to label someone a Prodigy or a Genius in the Naruto-Verse.
I'll start by breaking down the new generation thus far. EVERYONE in this new generation, far surpasses their father/mother as children, compared to them as children. This is going to be a known fact, with Kishimoto's quote "The generation surpasses the next"
For example, Chou Chou is using the expansion jutsu at her age, when Choji could only perform the same feature when he himself took pills to stabilize his body from memory. That's impressive, but is she a Prodigy? No.
What Sarada did, was extremely impressive, but was it stated to be impossible? No. Has anyone failed to do this who was an Genius or Prodigy in the medical field? No.
See the connection yet? Sarada is just lucky enough to be born with a parent who can teach her, study, and learn from. If Sakura was given the same opportunity, she would of been just as powerful. Can someone deny that fact? Nope.
We will see Shikidai, Inojin, Boruto, Lee Jr, and etc., perform better than their parents/teachers at their ages, but in the long run surpassing them may be possible for certain parents (just not Naruto and Sasuke).
Even Boruto being called a Prodigy is a bit unclear at this point. Because we have no idea what technique it is:
I. It may be a Lightning/Chidori Rasengan, something that a Genius/Prodigy failed to do already. Minato as well. Only Naruto succeeded to combine an element with the Rasengan, but he basically skimmed through the talent portion needed to create it, and used the clones to boost his experience and learn what the normal human-ninja couldn't in such a short amount of time. We know for a fact that Boruto can't create that same number of clones, so far he has only shown being able to create 2. So if he is able to pull it off, it's obvious what he is.
II. It may just be a new technique that he created himself after Sasuke helped pave the way after learning his elemental nature. Most shinobi haven't created techniques themselves, but some have, and they are usually extremely talented too.
This isn't a downplay or anything, but this generation is obviously going to surpass their parents (some of them) due to having the resources needed, where they failed.
