Why are people throwing around the word Prodigy?

I don't think people understand what it takes to label someone a Prodigy or a Genius in the Naruto-Verse.

I'll start by breaking down the new generation thus far. EVERYONE in this new generation, far surpasses their father/mother as children, compared to them as children. This is going to be a known fact, with Kishimoto's quote "The generation surpasses the next"

For example, Chou Chou is using the expansion jutsu at her age, when Choji could only perform the same feature when he himself took pills to stabilize his body from memory. That's impressive, but is she a Prodigy? No.

What Sarada did, was extremely impressive, but was it stated to be impossible? No. Has anyone failed to do this who was an Genius or Prodigy in the medical field? No.

See the connection yet? Sarada is just lucky enough to be born with a parent who can teach her, study, and learn from. If Sakura was given the same opportunity, she would of been just as powerful. Can someone deny that fact? Nope.

We will see Shikidai, Inojin, Boruto, Lee Jr, and etc., perform better than their parents/teachers at their ages, but in the long run surpassing them may be possible for certain parents (just not Naruto and Sasuke).

Even Boruto being called a Prodigy is a bit unclear at this point. Because we have no idea what technique it is:

I. It may be a Lightning/Chidori Rasengan, something that a Genius/Prodigy failed to do already. Minato as well. Only Naruto succeeded to combine an element with the Rasengan, but he basically skimmed through the talent portion needed to create it, and used the clones to boost his experience and learn what the normal human-ninja couldn't in such a short amount of time. We know for a fact that Boruto can't create that same number of clones, so far he has only shown being able to create 2. So if he is able to pull it off, it's obvious what he is.

II. It may just be a new technique that he created himself after Sasuke helped pave the way after learning his elemental nature. Most shinobi haven't created techniques themselves, but some have, and they are usually extremely talented too.

This isn't a downplay or anything, but this generation is obviously going to surpass their parents (some of them) due to having the resources needed, where they failed.

Your argument is reasonable but Boruto being a prodigy was implied by Kishi specifically.

True, but we don't know what it is yet

Quick question :

If each generation surpasses previous one then which generation did surpass Otsutsuki family generation.

Kaguya,Hamura,Hagoromo.
Not in the long run though, sometimes children can't surpass their parents at the extent, but they can start better.

EX- Goten

Thank you! I like everyone is trying to use prodigy for Sarada yet Kishimoto not portraying her in that light. It's not called being a prodigy... it's called surpassing the old generation which is something the manga has been using since it debuted

kaira read!

Sarada has more talent than Sakura as a kid, argubly Sasuke, she has better chakra control from feats.

Boruto being able to use the Rasengan possibly younger than Naruto, having an element, possibly creating a new jutsu/combining an element with an Rasengan where Naruto did it at 16, etc.,

The Chou Chou example in the OP.

The list goes on as we learn more.

Boruto might be a Prodigy because he saw Naruto uses Rasengan and Sasuke uses chidori for the first time and he was able to mastered it without giving a lesson, similar to neji and itachi

Only medical geniuses such as

Tsunade
Sakura

Were able to perform it. You don't understand how hard it is to do what sarada did. Even a medical expert like shizune failed to do it. Using CES at her age is prodigious. Sasuke's face says it all.

It was never stated to be impossible, and Sakura isn't a medical genius or Prodigy, she's just a regular girl who has great chakra control. Not sure about Tsunade though.

The literal definition of the term "prodigy" is a person who performs feats at an age younger than 18 that are supposed to be feats only an adult can do or even surpasses an adult who is an expert in that field under normal circumstances by such individuals. For example lets take art. A poor child would be someone who could barely draw, stuck figure or basic art, basically. An intermediate talented artist would be someone who can at least make decent and average pieces of art. Extremely good artist would be those that can draw great anime pictures, animations, and more, usually people per suing art majors or just really talented, those people you would call talented. A prodigy would be a Picasso Level artist or dare I say, am above Picasso level artist or a person who can perform great 3D art without any assistance, mind you, these are children under 18. That's s prodigy.

A prodigy in the Narutoverse would be someone like Orochimaru, Kakashi, Itachi, Sasuke, Madara, etc.since they are did something that a child wouldn't be able to do until much later in life. Orochimaru possessed exceptional intelligence, Indra could do anything he put his mind to, Madara killed ADULT Senju males before he was even 18, Sasuke could do fireball jutsus at the age of five and was exceptional marksman, and still graduated at the too of his class as his skills were unparallelled even by geniuses. In their own right, neji and shikamaru whom the former was noted to also be a prodigy, only failing at teamwork. And everything sasuke and Naruto did during the war arc was them before the age if 18, making them prodigies as they performed kage level feats even before hagoromo power-up. Itachi is self-explanitory, kakashi was an anbu member in his teenage years, youngest that ever joined. These are examples of prpdogies.

Current generation, prodigies would not include chochou as even choji did that when he was 15, so chochou wouldn't be a prodigy. Sarada would be a prodigy but her mother did the same, by definition Sakura could be a prodigy as she was already the best medical non in the world by 17 only rivaled by Tsunade, only being enhanced by her byakuyou, Sarada could be as to use super strength you must have incredible chakra control as noted by kakashi, but Sarada beds better feats. Right now, nobody in the new Gen has showed prodigy like feats. Hope this better explains the thread.

Someone praise this guy, he gets it!

This is why I think Kishimoto called Boruto a Prodigy, because he did something that Kakashi/Minato failed to do, but that's speculation since we don't know what technique it is. Great post btw

I think the term is thrown around too loosely in the NV to start with. :|

Yeah she's definitely talented, but there's no Prodigy anything going on with anyone so far.

But Sakura earned that tittle: Medical Genius in my opinion.

I think she's extremely talented too, but there's just not enough medical shinobi to label them as Geniuses or Prodigies.

Hell isn't Kabuto one too despite having extremely different skill sets than Tsunade/Sakura?

Then you have prodigies wanking other prodigies and praising them as better prodigies than themselves when they haven't done anything overly impressive compared the the former if at all. :sdo:
