In the Indra v. Ashura battle? Was it foreshadowed? Or did Hagoromo say anything? My best guess would be that they both died.

I agree, I think that they died, so no one won in the first battle, until Naruto fought Sasuke, making Ashura/Naruto the winner.

I also think right before hand Indra and Ashura, both used a jutsu so they could become transmigraters and continue the fight after they died.

They most likely both died from their battle because if either of them had won the cycle of hatred wouldn't of continued and the world would've been shaped in their image.

It was a "long war," so I doubt it all amounted to one battle. They probably had multiple confrontations with varying results. However, I suspect that Ashura won the first battle, as if he didn't, he'd be dead, and had to have repelled his brother.

I think they tied, and used the power of Ninshuu to be able to transmigrate into the next generation to continue their feud. Similar to how Hagoromo became a floating piece of chakra

Indra lost the fight for ninshuu and after that he was tempted by black zetsu, suggesting he didn't want to kill Ashura over the leadership for ninshuu, just not sure how BZ tempted Indra, what did he do or say to tempt him, is still unknown.
