He was able to refocus Sasuke to what his true goal. Remember back to the Chunin exams where Orochimaru battled Sasuke. After he left the curse mark he reminded Sasuke that his goal is an avenger. Therefore, Sasuke was able to move on from the Will of Fire and start his vengeance.

Orochimaru grew that hatred into something more easily influenced. Madara just happened to reveal Sasuke the truth while Orochimaru fed him by lies. In the end, I think Orochimaru corrupted Sasuke the most.
