Madara didnt need hashiramas cells to get the rinnegan, he needed his cells to become complete like the sage of the six paths himself
That is what he has always wanted from the start
The uchiha was always going to develop the sage eyes but didnt have the physical energy
Itachi told sasuke that the achieving of the eternal mangyeko sharingan will give birth to a new doujutsu
I think that was the rinnegan he was talking about

Madara developed the rinnegan without the senju dna.
It was only needed to become complete like the sage of six paths.

IMO, the Sharingan is overrated. I've seen a lot of other ninjas performing badass jutsus, I just think the Uchiha are vastly overrated cause of the hype. If they weren't an integral part of the story, I guarantee everyone would be focused on someone else. Ex. when Gaara first appeared everyone thought he was badass, now nobody even flinches at the sound of his name. But anyway, I'll go w Senju. Btw, this is my opinion. I'm not gonna argue with some fanboys about MY opinion, if urs differs fine, I could care less just don't try and persuade me that I'm wrong or some ish like that. Kool? ^_^

What sasuke meant by select few is that, only those who have been in a life and death situation. You do realise that not all the clan members were ninja's therefore not all of them wouldve been in a life and death situation.

If sasuke had never been in a life or death situation he also wouldnt have been able to awaken it aswell.

) during the uchiha, senju rivalry clearly shows that theyve all been in some form of life and death situation.

Fact that obito also couldnt activate it until he his life ws threaten also demonstrates that, all of them have the abiltiy to awaken it, BUT not all will due to its circumstances.
