Do you remember what chapter Naruto achieved his goal, by having the entire village accept him? It was chapter 450, right when the Pein Arc concluded. Where Naruto stepped up to the plate and did what his sensei (Kakashi), master (Jiraiya) and the current Hokage (Tsunade) couldn't do. Defend the Leaf, protect the citizens, beat the bad guy and make a promise to bring peace to future generations. Naruto's character arc was nearly fulfilled (excluding working things out with Kurama) in Chapter 450 from May 2010.

The manga ended recently in November of 2014. That's more than 4 years and 250 chapters of the War arc and what do we have to show for it?

Fodder. Absolute Fodder. The War arc dragged on and on with no real direction. It could've been wrapped up in a fraction of the time and Kishi could've continued with more interesting storylines and further developing his characters that he neglected; which are in the double digits.

EDIT TO ADD

Kishi was set to crank this thing out in 700 and he had 250 chapters with an average of 18 pages per chapter to do it. What would you rather have seen happen?

Of course you don't like the ending, I can see it from your sig XD
No, what I don't like is overlong, bloated storylines with no direction.

I.e. the War being declared in chapter 467

Starting in chapter 515

Madara showing up in chapter 560 and preceding to kick the teeth in of the Shinobi Alliance non-stop till chapter 679 when he is negged by Black Zetsu.

The Kaguya arc lasting from 679-689; filler in the manga really.

And then the mad dash to wrap up everything in 11 chapters.

Black Zetsu- somewhat resembles the Demi god Kodama - the tree spirit and would have done fine on his own. lol I wonder if at one point Black Zetsu was the final villain not kaguya and she was brought in along with Sage's brother only to get a hook for the movie or other stories in future. Like Kishi said in his interview that he thought of writing Sasuke's journey to find out more about Kaaguya but then dropped that line. And decided to focus on next gen.

War arc itself was not that bad though it couldn't grip the people much after Tobi's ID was revealed. The big disappointment for many "theorists"- really big...

After it was revealed the fan wars and arguments among those who wanted it to be Obito and those whose theory flopped made a big impact on the forum member's view on it.

The mess the days were after madara was revealed in the sixth coffin seemed big at first but nope- the day ID was revealed people went crazy. There were threads with no replies or even without any view on the third page - pushed down almost as soon as they were posted by another 40 threads or so..and the days after..

In short don't check the forums while reading it and you will be less disappointed if you only focus on the atmosphere the mangka is trying to create and where he is leading it instead of making up your mind based on random spoilers, everyone else's opinion and then rushing though the chapters and rush back to comment on it.

If anything I have learned at NB it is that forums ruin the experience of reading the way people discuss it most of the times. Fanboys, hater and theory makers who always like to maintain their fiction and prediction was the logical lead, the writer failed to follow.
