This has been my signature for years on another forum. Although my name was Zisera on thereErgo Proxy.
i wouldnt recomend to the new generation either. id probably set them up with boruto then have them go back to kids naruto. like when i have son hopefully ill get him to watch anime like his popsCan't name just one. The ones that affected me the most were:
Neon Genesis Evangelion;
Ghost in the Shell;
Code Geass;
Ergo Proxy;
Serial Experiments Lain.
I'd also add Naruto to the list, but purely because I've been following it for over 12 years and now I have strong nostalgic feelings for it. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone nowadays tbh.

Episodes 1-4 are a study of individual character, 5-7 focus on the investigation, 8-10 show us the world outside of the previously established characters, and the last 3 constitute a closing arc. So if you are in it only for the first four episode then you are going to miss a lot. Though given the time and efforts it takes in taking it all in, it's only for the people who really are in to this genre.That anime started really good but after episode 4, it just became meh. I really like the hidden messages (AFAIK, someone in the YT comments section was explaining the meaning of each episode, really good for the first 4 episodes).
not really...The lack of Death Note is disturbing.
Anyways here is my list
Death Note
Naruto
FMA:Brotherhood
Code Geass
Steins Gate
