Funny when people don't want their delusions to be contradicted they start throwing this and that out of canon.
Kishi doesn't write personally the manga episodes but still has the copyright. The writers of the anime cannot make Naruto an admirer of Hitler or Kiba a cannibal because they have to work under the boundaries of the character and is Kishi the one who dictates the boundaries a character has. It kinda works like the Stan Lee comics, there are plenty authors at work but that doesn't mean that there are dozens of variants of the same character, there is only one character who did all the things he/she is entitled for. That, unless Stan Lee itself declares something out of canon or announces that they'll restart a whole continuity.
If Kishi didn't want Hinata to be able to cast the 8 Trigrams Barrier, or Sakura to use the Cherry Blizzard Paperbombs, or Shino to use the wired shurikens, he'd just have said so, that is the reason you never saw a filler episode where Lee uses any form of ninjutsu however small it may be.
I feel that such skills SHOULD be taken into account when evaluating the feats a character has.
Anyway, in this particular case, I'll let you people have it your way. If you take away the anime from the picture it's even clearer that Sakura has more feats, power and general usefulness than Hinata. Hinata mostly excels at scouting like the rest of his team, Sakura is more versatile and generally speaking more strong.
I already find the Sakura vs Hinata trend quite ridicolous because they're both good (not exceptional, but good) characters and assuming that one is more likeable if you bash the other diminishes them both. But, everyone is free to like or dislike characters as he/she pleases.
When it boils down to power, however, personal preferences step aside and facts take in. And facts are that Hinata had less feats, less achievements, less experience in battle, less power, and less statistics than Sakura.
