I was with the group who liked to clown around a lot, play basketball and chief on fridays. We were cool around with other groups so I don't know if popular is the right word, more like well known. Through a random conversation with my friends, I was surprised to find out that they've watched shows like Elfen Lied.

I live in LA and i just finished hs but there isnt a "popular crowd" in LA, there is just gangs and crews. I was well-known by my classmates, but i never talked to them unless they talked to me, and i got back into naruto like in 10th or 11th grade, then my friend told me about the manga (he was a linebacker, i think) my other friend didnt care for it, and i would read the manga in any class i had with a computer. I also have like narutobase on my facebook.
Most people watched naruto and liked it, but they werent into it like most of the newbs here

My school doesn't have a "popular" group per se, but it did have it's own sectionalised cliques. People with similar backgrounds and interests tend to hang out with each other more. Also, the group you tend to prefer to hang with in your first year, will be the one you stay with until you graduate. There is little to no gravitation. That has it's benefits, but if you want to join a new group or meet someone new, they might not be as open to accepting or wanting to get to know you.

As for me, I hung out with the Caribbean intellectuals. They were pretty similar to me and we liked to keep to ourselves and focus on our goals. As much as I love them, we do have our flaws. We are like the slightly condescending, judgemental crew who does not suffer fools lightly. Because of that, like the OP said, I tend to keep all my online activities (reading manga, going on forums, etc.) a secret.

In Pakistan, the concept of popularity is quite different when you have a bunch of broken swings, a butt-hurting seesaw, and poor broken-down courts where dodge-ball, bat-ball - fancy term for cricket - and basket ball with mildly inflated balls for sports grounds. So becoming a popular kid through sports was a dead end, folks.

If you went for arts, you were going against Quran, as Islam forbids to draw figures. If you went for signing, you were cheap and a heretic as it arouses people. The problems are endless. So, since I was into arts, I wasn't popular at all. I wasn't bothered by it though.

In highschool being on the football team and cutting class everyday I had alot of friends. I never considered myself being in a "popular crowd". If you were cool with me and you never do anything to offend me, I was cool with you. Although I would say I was well known because of my good looks and I had alot of gf's.

Nope. U_U But I was dating a guy who was in the ''popular group''.

I was a little bit weird. I was always reading or writing sth. I had a group of friends who could stand my weirdness, I guess. They are good people.
I was not into ordinary sports, but I liked and I still like caving and mountaineering. None of my friends were into anime so I could share my thoughts about anime only with my brother.

But it's strange when you start remembering all these things. It looks like I'm not speaking about myself, but about someone else... Like I'm talking a story about some stranger. :yeah:

There were less than 100 people who graduated from my class, so it's no surprise everybody knows everyone. I mostly stick to my clique, a bunch of girls and guys who were into anime. We're fairly peaceful and got along pretty well with the rest of the crowd.

There wasn't really a "popular" crowd at my school. That sounds like such a television/movie term. I mean, sure, there were some kids whose names were a bit more out there, but they weren't adored by all like the "popular" crowd is on TV. Most times those were the kids that got into trouble and had a rep for being "bad".
But, to answer your question, I'd say I was semi-popular (within my grade level). A good number of people knew me as the "short, sort of smart kid who was cute and funny " <---- 100% true.
