It can be argued it was because he was a clone that airpalms affects didn't do much.
Lets say it did hit one of the clones vital spots and did some damage (not enough to outright kill it like Gai/Naruto), How is that going to slow it down when the person who is controlling him cannot feel said pain?
The bold doesn't make sense. The original Kisame not feeling pain doesn't mean that the clone can't be injured or slowed down by physical attacks when it's a living physical body. Not a puppet in any sense besides the fact it's being manipulated by someone from afar. If Itachi was controlling someone via Genjutsu would they not still be slowed down by attacks of that nature despite Itachi himself not feeling said Pain? Naturally it would.
