If you go into a conversation with someone who's using them in a formal context, and you insist that it only exists in the informal context, you're being willfully ignorant, and your foolishness just means you'll be left behind in ignorance as our understanding of *** and gender identity broadens and evolves and our language evolves in tandem with it.

And it's not classified as a mental illness because there isn't evidence that being transgender causes as much as distress as opposed to the external, societal factors that do, nor is there evidence that higher suicidal tendencies are caused simply by being transgender. Except the surgeries don't prevent them from feeling sexual pleasure, allowing their reproductive system to fulfill a primary function. They might not be able to reproduce, but that hardly matters in the full scope of human experience.
