At the time of the massacre there were no senju around. The only senju tsuande was somewhere else. Again as the manga at that time, the uchiha were the strongest. Only after the massacre did that title got passed to the hyugan

Am sure there were Senju around other then Tsunade.

It's just harder to tell who was a Senju because they don't posses eyes that set them apart from other clans.

Well first off, it was stated in the manga that the uchiha clan was the strongest clan in the village before the massacre.

However, uchiha's were not only known for their sharingan, but being natural adept at battle and having naturally powerful chakra. The only thing that I see going for the hyuga's over the uchiha is that its shown that every hyuga awakens a byakugan no matter what the age or circumstance, whereas its not guaranteed for an uchiha to awaken a sharingan, and even after they awaken it, the sharingan must mature in order to reach the three tomoe stage.

Unless you can link me a page where it puts the uzumaki in this category.

You got me there partner but I always think of Senju and Uzumaki has a single unit or tribe (I know it's kinda wrong)

but in terms of combat Senju = Uchiha overall even though Hashirama > Madara (until further proof can be given)

But maybe the reason why the Uzumaki were not placed in the same category has the senju and Uchiha were bec maybe they were few in number but they had very powerful warriors.

there was only like 3 people who unlocked MS in that generation, shishu, itachi and then finally sasuke. Im sure there might be some byakugan users who have excelled in it like the uchiha sharigan.
