The reason why he's able to whip out large scale clones and Rasangans is because the seal - before he opened it - allowed for a bit of Kurama's chakra to mix with his own, allowing for accelerated healing and stamina.

Which is why he has never felt the heavy effects of using Kage Bushins. The tiredness from using so many would add up to it all as well. He would literally collapse if he had used even 6 with Rasangans, because there would be no recovery.
