This one is a 'special' one. Not really a battle useful technique but it can find its purposes in our NW, as you have already mentioned yourself. An exceedingly simple technique, but most tend to misunderstand or over-complicate it. Since the Genjutsu will cause them to see themselves continuing on in this straight line path, when in reality they're running around in circles, I would say that I am going to put this one in the group of Trickery, since it basically tricks you and makes you see or believe something that isn't real.

Now that I think about it, usually its better to avoid this Genjutsu entirely by simply running in a non-linear path (e.g. a zigzag motion). However, if I do happen to be caught in it, I could simply use the reasoning, that as I believe that I am traveling in a straight line, but really in reality I am going in circles, I will soon enough begin to realize that I am not getting any closer to my enemy(ies) or target(s). Likewise there is one more way, by using thrown objects to decipher that I am moving in circles, since more likely than not the object will go off on angled flight path, clearly showing you're not moving in a straight line. I think I have seen that technique being used in a fight so I am aware of what it can possibly do.

Once I explained why I think it is a Genjutsu I would release myself from it with, for example a full body surge.
Exactly, if he opponent is 20m away from you and you run 2 hours towards him something is wrong, lol. Jokes aside, you obviously use your hearing as well. If the opponent already tricked you then he will continue to move and do something, either way there's plenty of clues you can use to free yourself.

( Genjutsu: Jinmon ) - Illusion Technique: Interrogation
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra Cost:15
Damage Points:30
Description: The user of this technique, upon casting on a stationary opponent with physical contact with them, is able to convince the enemy to give away information. However, this will only work on ninja two ranks lower and below than the caster.

Oh well, not really useful in my opinion. If you had a non-NW fight with someone you could force him to tell you his KG and stuff like that, but why go through the trouble of that instead of just finding it out the old fashioned way, by fighting. Sooner or later when the opponent finds himself in a bad situation he will resort to his hidden abilities and that's when you get to know who you're fighting so there's no use for this technique. And on top of that it works only against much weaker opponents.

If you run 2 hours towards your opponent something is indeed wrong. You are definitely eating too much McDonalds lol. Oh yeah I forgot to write that down. Hearing is really important in that case.

This technique is definitely a sort of "truth serum". Sadly this technique has absolutely no use in the battle arena (since in the battle arena information of this sort is essentially useless) and has incredibly limited usage in the ninja world. It is rather basic and will require a target far weaker than you who is unable to move. I find it interesting how usually Genjutsus cannot control the opponent's actions, however this technique has many requirements to be able to do so. The opponent must be much weaker than you, physical contact is required which amplifies its effects and they must be weakened enough to be incapable of movements altogether. Not liking it to be honest with you. This Genjutsu affects the sight sense, by making the opponent see that I am someone trustworthy and so on, so I will put it into the group of Trickery, because it tricks you to give information/intel out.

Well since this is a really strange one, when caught in, there is not much you can do if you are two ranks lower than your opponent. It mainly depends on the opponent and the questions he or she asks, all depends on how I can decipher that. As long as I'm high in rank this is nothing that can harm me. Of course, who will allow someone to touch him in a fight? Your opponent has to first paralyze you/restrict your movements for this technique to work. But of course coming in short range is a blade with two edges. Since I am a good taijutsu user, this will basically give me some freedom to practice my taijutsu once I countered the genjutsu.

If the Genjutsu is attempted, then Nagashi is the basic counter. It is pretty obvious, isn't it?

See, you're wrong. I mean, you're right (genjutsu can't control your opponent) but you're wrong (you're not controlling your opponent into telling you stuff). What you're doing is CONVINCING him to tell you the stuff, it's all smooth talk, basically.

Yes, first thing's first, don't let the opponent ever get you and second, no need to reach for nagashi, if he places a hand on you, you know that something is about to happen. As per the illusion is says that you have to be stationary, not necessarily paralyzed so you can move your arm, grab a kunai and stab yourself, or stuff like that. But there's something else I want to point out.

Are you familiar with the way of tricking the lie detector? A lie detector works by detecting your heart rate and usually when you're about to lie your heart rate goes up and it shows on the polygraph. That's why they start by asking your name and something about you that they know you'll tell the truth and they take the measurements. Then once they start asking the actual questions they measure the difference between the previous and current answers. If there is a huge difference they know that you lied. So, how do you trick it? Well, you place a sharp object somewhere in your clothing, preferably a shoe, and when they start asking you the first questions you pinch yourself with the sharp object to rise your heart rate. Following this principle when you tell a lie your heart rate will be the same.

Well, why am I mentioning all this? Because a stab is the perfect way because of the similarity in these two situations. A stab does not only increase a ninja's heart rate but also spikes his chakra system thus why it's such an effective release method.

( Genjutsu: Jigoku Gouka ) - Illusion Technique: Hell Fire
Rank: C

Simple and short as the explanation. Nothing special to say about it and I will keep my starts for me this time. I want to hear how you could use it effectively in a battle. Teach me.

Too late my friend. You already shared your knowledge with me about this one long ago. Remember?

This is simple but cool one to use. The user of the technique simply affects the opponent's vision. Nothing more, nothing less. I am mentioning this because the user of the technique has to take into account that, since it only affects the opponent's vision, the Genjutsu can cause some mental distress but it does not cause the opponent to feel like they are burning so it does not do that much mental damage, or enough mental damage to cause an opponent to faint, therefore its use is mainly for a distraction. If I were to use that in a battle I will for sure combine it with the Lightning Illusion Flash of Lightning Pillar-technique, because, as you have once taught me, once the opponent opens his eyes he will notice the fireball and will have to defend against it by using most likely water. Due to this, I pretty much gain a predictable advantage and can follow up with lightning release technique to electrocute him as he expels it, for example. Of course there are different ways of using this particular technique. The one I mentioned is the most 'logical/basic' one. I am putting this Genjutsu into the group of Trickery, because it tricks your opponent into believing something happened while it didn't.

Now the fun part comes. When analyzing this as a genjutsu you first have to start questioning how the fire can randomly appear in the sky, as fire needs to be generated somehow. This will give you room to follow up with this as the reason it is an illusion because the fire originated without a physical source. Once again since this Genjutsu only affects the sense of sight, it means that the fireball can easily be distinguished that it is not real by making use of your other senses again. If the fireball is devoid of heat, has no sounds of crackling and doesn't have the characteristic smell of fire (more precisely the smoke it produces) then this is for sure a Genjutsu. It sounds simple but it isn't, because you have to react fast.

You can just stab yourself and break out of it, once you have provided a reasonable explanation about why you think that it is a Genjutsu. I must say that this one is rather simple. Nonetheless I like it.

What? When?

That's the usual stuff noobs do, and if you look at it from another perspective it's utter bullshit. Yes, obviously fire doesn't fall from the sky but we're ninja and it's all magic and yes, unexplainable stuff happens. How do you explain Madara's meteorite's then? Was that a genjutsu too? Your pro way to deduce this as a genjutsu is by listening and noticing that there's no sound coming from the fireball. A huge ass fireball would definitely make a sound. And as you brilliantly pointed out, using your skin to sense the heat. However, to do that the fireball would have to be dangerously close to you, so you should always stick with sound as your first instinct on this one.

In our lighting release training, when you were teaching me the blinding technique I asked you for the best Genjutsu follow up after it and you gave me an example.

Definitely. So far I believe, sticking with sound is the best thing to do in most situations.

Alright then, let's analyze this one, the last of C ranks.

( Genjutsu: Kasumi no Jutsu ) - Illusion Technique: Mist Technique
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra cost: 15
Damage points: N/A
Description: The user creates an illusionary clone that charges towards the enemy, jumps, then explodes in a cloud of cherry blossom petals which results in confusing the opponent and obscuring their vision, leaving them open for attack.

So, from the creation of the clone there's nothing really fishy about it but what gives it away are the petals that block your vision of the opponent which means that since you don't see him he can prepare an attack. Still, do you think there's a way to even know the clone is an illusion before he explodes in the cloud? This is essential because it could be the difference between life and death, obviously.

We already covered a clone-type of genjutsu technique so nothing to worry about here. Another Genjutsu that manipulates the opponent's vision. This is a great technique to use to trick your opponent into believing that you made a shadow clone or a great technique to combine with shadow clone technique to blend the illusion in with the real clones. But you have to make sure that you are not fighting against a dojutsu user because then the technique becomes pretty much useless. The technique falls under the Trickery-type of genjutsu techniques since it makes the opponent see what is not there, in this situation obviously the clone.

About the analyzing part I would say that there are many ways to find out if the clone is real or not. One being while he moves, I would closely look at the clone, does it makes any sounds while running or once again does the terrain alter where it appeared. Usually clones appear with a poof of smoke so that's a good catch too. And not only that, I will look for more important things as well, for example does it cast a shadow on the ground as well as those petals. Also I can use my smelling to find out if the petals have any specific smell, but that is not needed because I can immediately tell that the clone is not real by hearing that he makes no noises while walking towards me as well as that he didn't create any smoke while being created. I am just trying to point everything out. Likewise you can analyze this technique by just exploiting the fact that the clone is an illusion and will just pass through physical objects too, of course that depends on the battle circumstances and the terrain on which you are fighting.

Excellent. Footsteps! If you noticed, I have a CJ similar to this except that I make two clones and instead of being a trickery it's actually a concealing genjutsu because it also conceals my actions as well. Quite an advanced technique if you ask me. But yes, the same applies for both jutsu, analyzing the footsteps. This also brings us to the first point of dealing with a genjutsu; trying to asses which of your senses are being fooled so that you can quickly start focusing on the other ones.

(Magen: Nijū Kokoni Arazu no Jutsu) Demonic Illusion: Double False Surroundings Technique
Type: Supplmentary
Rank: B-Rank
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra: 20
Damage: N/A
Description:
The user will do a sequence of 3 handseals, putting his opponents under a double layered Genjutsu. The user is able to create false surroundings to fool his targets, much like the simpler version of the technique. However, the illusion is in fact layered. If the opponent manages to release the first one, he will then feel the effects of the second illusion. If, for example, the first illusion is that of a desert and the second that of a forest, upon releasing the first one, the opponent will see the desert fade away while the forest appears around him, making him think he dispelled the illusion while in essence he is still caught in one. Each illusion is equivalent to C-Rank and both are casted at the same time. While normal releases will release only one illusion at a time, a strong enough pain or an external source of chakra can dispel both at the same time.

Layering. If you read the official Genjutsu thread you could've learned how layering works with different illusions with different effects and ranks, however this is a single genjutsu that allows you to layer it, doubling its efficiency. Basically, the opponent will have to release twice from it which is insanely useful because it gives you twice as much time to advance on the opponent. Notice that this is only a visual genjutsu, and a quite poor at that, but if you change the key features of the battlefield it can be immensely helpful.

Oh I have indeed read about the Butterflies and Squirrels Lol

Overall I can say that this is a basic illusion that affects the way the opponent's sees the terrain. The main sense affected by this technique is sight and only sight. Nothing else! You cannot make the opponent feel certain aspects of the terrain as that would exceed the capabilities of the technique. As we know, each illusion has a limit to how much it can affect the opponent which is how it creates a certain opening. Also a cool way to use this is for example to change the surroundings to make it look like there is no water source, etc, but not much active use. So I came to a conclusion that this particular technique falls under the Trickery-type of genjutsu techniques.

Now the fun part again. Well this time it is just simple to find out that it is a genjutsu unless the opponent hasn't followed with a combo to trick you. Let's say the opponent changes the terrain into something with ice, would you feel the coolness of the ice, or if the opponent creates something with lava would you feel the intense heat, or a muddy earth substances would you feel its adhesive nature and etc. I would make sure to listen for the sounds when something is being created as well. Everything depends on the scenario of the fight, but as you always teach me I have to use my senses and only them to find out if I am dealing with an illusion.

Very good.

( Konoha-Ryū: Yanagi ) - Leaf Ninja Art: Willow
Rank: B
Type: Offensive
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 20
Damage points: 35
Description: The user waves their sword back and forth, which when seen by the target locks them in a genjutsu which causes them to hallucinate multiple waving arms. The movement resembles that of a willow tree blowing in the wind. With the enemy off guard, the user is free to cut them down.

An useful jutsu if you're a taijutsu or kenjutsu user. It allows you to confuse the opponent by making him see multiple arms (or rather limbs) that are attacking him. This will hopefully redirect his focus from you to the whole situation and in theory should provide you an opening for the final blow. If you're familiar with my CFS Sound propulsion, a portion of it is based on this jutsu and consists of tricking the opponent into seeing phantom limbs.

This is obviously best to be used with a sword. It is indeed an excellent Genjutsu for close quarter battles. It is quite obvious that we deal with a technique here that takes advantage of the opponent's vision to distort how they perceive the natural world around them. The technique takes advantage of a simple waving motion to resemble a willow tree in the wind. The illusion basically works without handseals which is great because it is almost no time consuming, but you do need to do the waving motion with your sword for sure. I am not a big fan of Kenjutsu so I don't really find this technique too useful for myself but it's not bad. Just not good enough for my taste. I am going to put this one into the Trickery group because this is a technique that makes your opponent see or believe something that isn't real (in this particular situation, the swords).

To analyze this one you have to be really careful. You should ask yourself when the hands appear from everywhere, if they are going to cast a shadow. I can likewise use my sound sense to identify if the swords are making any sounds, since when a sword is being waved through the air it would set a sound of metal. More precisely, when a sword moves against the air it compresses the air molecules ahead of it. The air becomes like a compressed coil, that tends to recover its original state. And it does, in fact when this happens, other molecules of air become compressed, and tends to recover its original state and finally this wave reaches our ear. This happens in all directions, and the sound wave travels even with greater velocity than does the sword. Basically the sword compresses the air in front of it and de-compresses the air behind it. This produces a compressional sound wave which humans/ninjas will be able to hear. So you have to watch out for that for sure. Of course you can likewise find out that one of the arms is an illusion by slicing your own sword through it and finding that it doesn't stop you. Since it's low rank, a simple cut would release you from it without any trouble. Then just stab yourself to break out of it. It's actually an easy one to determine.

Alright scientific boy, that's enough. xD

( Genjutsu: Ingemame Ketsugō Sakkaku ) - Illusion Technique String Bean Binding Illusion
Rank: B
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 20
Damage points: N/A
Description: Similar to Illusion Technique: Tree Binding Death, the user will do the Dog → Hare → Snake → Ram hand seals and trigger an illusion where the user first disappears, while the target sees several bean vines growing from the ground around and beneath him. These vines bind the target body, lifting them into the air. Then a bean pod rises from the ground to reveal the user, ready to strike. In reality, the opponent is immobilized by the illusion, allowing the user to strike.

Just an advanced version that paralyzed your opponent in place while he experiences the illusion. Obviously, if you're not a plant user the opponent will try to use that bullshit excuse to rationalize it as a genjutsu while in reality he has no idea whether you really are or are not a plant/wood user and whether even the vines are a specific element. What I'm saying is that people always use bullshit excuses for genjutsu and they always get through because, why argue about such a stupid thing? So, what other ways are there to realize it's a genjutsu, and how do you free yourself if you're completely paralyzed?

Oh I completely agree here. A lot of people have bullshit analysis of why they think their opponent is using such kind of Genjutsu. I mean, when you meet someone in the battle arena for first time, he has no idea who you are, he has no idea what's your name, he has no idea in what clan you are in or what your kekkei genkai is so he cannot start 'assuming' that you are a wood user for example. He first needs to see you using your kekkei genkai to be able to assume such stuff. That is pure metagaming and I hate it. Just ruins the fun, but what can you do about it?

Anyways, this technique is an illusion that affects the opponents vision but this one also affects the opponent's sense of touch. This illusion manipulates the opponent's sense of touch and cause them to believe that they are trapped in the vines, as you have already mentioned. It falls under the group of Paralysis/Restriction techniques since it prevents you from moving in real life.

Well about the analyse obviously you are going to use your sense to determine if it is real or not. Usually vines smell, so you will be near them and if they don't smell it will be a genjutsu. Usually vines will make noises when they come out of the earth (using your hearing sense), if they don't it is a genjutsu. Also looking on the ground if the vines have a shadow is a good thing too.

I would say that chakra surges will be the best way to dispel such kind of techniques. I am not completely sure master, but can you gather a portion of chakra and then use it to alter the opponents chakra flow?

Exactly, smell is the best in this case. What do you mean by the bolded sentence?
