Both were shocked at Rin's death. Both lost their loved ones. Only the difference was Obito loved Rin as the lover and Kakashi loved Rin as his only left close comrade left after Obito.
Rin stepped in when Kakashi was about to pierce Mist Shinobi with raikiri. The loss of a comrade triggered his MS.
You just counter argued yourself here, you said its the Uchiha brain that gives rise to the powers of MS and EMS, but you said here that both Kakashi and Obito unlocked MS. This is obviously not the case, it can't be, Kakashi is not an Uchiha he doesn't produce the particular chakra that affects the optic nerve as Tobirama said. Somehow Sharingan pairs are linked, as show by Obito SOMEHOW seeing through his implanted eye, hence Tobirama must be wrong to some extent, the change triggering MS is not just chakra it must also be something else, becuase if it was just chakra triggering the change Kakashi shouldn't have gotten the MS, lol he's not connected to Obito's brain is he?
Obito unlocked MS, Kakashi did not, by unlocking MS it somehow affected the implanted Sharingan. Honestly I think this is a plot hole.
Tobirama likely never had an example like kakashi and Obito to truly examine how the Sharingan really works, so honestly I take what Tobirama says with a pitch of salt.
It sounds like some creepy quantum entanglement to be honest.
I by mistake gave a space between "in complete".
Even for me, that's just a possibility and not a solid answer to you. because we haven't seen any one doing it. The only case to be considered is Madara's and Izuna's.

In case of Kakashi, he was having the eye. He suffered the loss of Rin and that is why, the optic nerve of his Sharingan respond to his feelings and awakened the MS.
Tobi/Obito was not capable of awakening the MS of other Sharingan which he used in his other eye because there was no feeling of pain left for him.
Danzo also was not capable of activating in those 10 Sharingans because he had already discarded feeling stuff.
Tobirama must have noticed the change in Uchihas because it is reflected into their eyes. And that makes them go wild unlike other normal humans as well as Senjus.
This is my answer
Also, Tobirama could only see the effects in the Uchihas more clearly than in any other normal humans or his own fellow people, Senjus.
I have to disagree, its never stated that the Sharingan can change its state without this "special" chakra Tobirama talks about. Because Obito momentarily sees through his implanted Sharingan I'm far more inclined to believe that when he unlocked the MS it somehow affected the implant via this strange ability he showcased. If he could see through it that means there is some connection, hence its not beyond thought that Obito unlocked the implants MS.

Most of the people still thinks that Sasuke possess Itachi's powers because he got his eyes. But that's not true.
The only person who understood Uchiha's true source of power was Tobirama. He explained it to Sasuke who himself did not knew what was his source of power. Tobirama can sense the chakra levels and the type of chakra just by looking at the person (in case of Karin and Naruto) He studied the Sharingan as well.

Tobirama explained that the brain of the Uchiha is the source of their powers that brings change in their eyes.
And Itachi explained what was the purpose of the other pair of eyes. It gives the user a never dying light in his eyes.
SO Sasuke only transplanted Itachi's eyes and not his brain. So the chakra created in their brains is different depending upon their own chakra level. Itachi got the powers which his special chakra created out of his loss of love. Similarly Sasuke got his own.
After transplanting Itachi's eyes, Sasuke got a new light, a never dying light that enhanced his own MS powers.
And that is explained by the combined design of Sasuke's EMS.
Sasuke already had his own MS design before transplanting Itachi's. He got that design depending on his own chakra level from his brain. Similarly Itachi got his own.
But when Sasuke used Itachi's eyes, his chakra signalled his previous MS design along with the design already present in Itachi's eyes. That gave his EMS a combined design of both the users. And that enhanced the powers of Sasuke's previous MS which were feeding on his chakra.
Even Madara's EMS has the pattern of his MS and his brother's MS overlapping each other.
This explains that every Uchiha eye has a particular MS design instilled in it. This is just like changing goggles. You can see what your eye looks but gets a different feel either comfortable or uncomfortable depending upon the glasses.
After unlocking EMS, Sasuke's manipulation of Amaterasu flames got enhanced.
Also he got extra hands on each of the susano'o arms.

One of the arm holding a sword. That sword cannot be Totsuka because there exists only one which was still under Edo Itachi's possession. As well as the Yata Mirror.
Other than that Sasuke got an Amaterasu ball in his one hand and the bow and arrow. He can use the ball of flame to dip the arrow in it and use it or otherwise use the arrow as it is.

This is clear that he got more power ups than expected already by transplanting Itachi's eyes. So there's nothing more expected like Itachi's susano'o weapons.
In short, the eye is just a tool to bring out the power of the user.
The eye is independant of the user but not the vice versa only till the level of MS and not for EMS and Rinnegan. The user having MS already cannot activate EMS by transplanting someone else's MS except his siblings MS and that too in special cases like Sasuke-Itachi and Madara-Izuna.
That is why Shisui's MS can turn to tomoe as well as to MS.
That is why Nagato couldn't use Madara's EMS or lower level Sharingan. He got what was transplanted that is the Rinnegan.
That is why Obito wanted Sasuke's either MS or EMS because both forms were having ability to use the Susano'o.
Similar thing happened in case of Kakashi and Obito.
It is similar to the way how Naruto was ready to accept Obito's proposal when Neji sacrificed himself to save Naruto and Hinata.
And for Obito, Rin was the only person whom he loved which triggered his MS.
But the level of chakra created in their brains was on different level. Since Obito was already a Uchiha he went wild and started killing out of anger and pain. But for kakashi it took a toll on his chakra levels and got fainted.
Both the eyes are not connected to each other since the users are different. Otherwise whenever one uses MS the other's has to change to MS also. But since that did not happened it is clear that they are not connected even if they opens the door to the same dimension.
If the same eye is instilled in another Uchiha, then he can also use the MS abilities effectively as that of the original user.
In case of Kakashi, he was having the eye. He suffered the loss of Rin and that is why, the optic nerve of his Sharingan respond to his feelings and awakened the MS.

Based on his own statements it doesn't make sense at all, Tobirama stated that their powers are projected through their eyes, but the awakening of a new level could be achieved with the connection of the special chakra that the brain sproutes after being in presence of the loss of a loved one. This special chakra could only be sprouted from an Uchiha.
:| I am really lost... as you said my friend, that answer is contradictory to Tobirama's statement.
Tobirama statement didn't make sense from starters, since Kakashi's Sharingan evolved with Kakashi's brain, thing that proves that Tobirama statement was wrong (it only applied to the Uchihas), but probably Tobirama never knew about a case of someone who wield the eyes of a Uchiha without being Uchiha.
Ergo, even if the experience to awake the Sharingan comes from the current eye wielder's brain, the power of the original user resides in the eye (that's why Kakashi can use Obito's Kamui).

I think you slightly miss interpreted why Tobirama's statements as to how the Sharingan works are wrong.
First bolded: Tobirama likely had seen cases of people taking the uchiha eyes for themselves (likely even within his own clan) but these were implants likely from dead Uchihas correct? But in those cases those eyes never evolved, hence it would make sense to build a theory around what seems to be an infallible fact. The truth is Tobirama had never seen a wielder of a sharingan where the original owner is still alive. That is the only variable I doubt Tobirama could account for, its not as if he could experiment himself after the founding of Konoha, and any Uchiha that lost their eyes before that was most certainly dead after the extraction before or after.
Second bolded: I have to disagree here, while I agree Kakashi's feelings would have been more than enough to unlock MS had he been Uchiha he lacks the so called "special" chakra required. However when Obito came into "range" of his old Sharingan, he began to see through it much like the ability of the Rinnegan to see from multiple bodies. This shows the the Sharingan "pair" have some kind of connection even if they are apart, is it similar to Nagato's paths? I can't say but it shows that the Sharingan even if apart are connected to the same person, the original user. Hence when Obito unlocked MS for one of his sharingan he unlocked it for both of them. Kakashi's Sharingan only evolved because Obito was still alive.

Umm wut? Lol sorry confused here. Kakashi can use his Sharingan fine, its just connected as a pair to Obito who as the true user can unlock its higher levels and see through it. Kakashi can use it just fine it the evolution that is beyond him.
I'm a little confused. The eye only reflects the brain's feelings right? Then why didn't Kakshi and Danzo develop completely unique MS techs?
What is the connection between Obito's and Kakshi's MS? There's no way that Kakashi's transplanted eye could have known about Obito's Kamui development? Maybe they had the same feelings since they both saw the death of Rin?
So then, If Kakashi and Obito were in completely different situations when developing their respective MS, then would that mean their MS techs would be completely different?
Even if Kakashi's Obito's eyes are interconnected and if the agree to the statements that because of Obito's Sharingan changes to MS, Kakashi's also changed, then the story which we're following till now, that is, Obito used Kamui countless time when Kakashi wasn't even mastered over it as well as did not use his MS will result into a failure.
If both the MS gets activated at the same time then why not Kakashi's got activated whenever Obito uses his own MS.
We have seen the other MS users, that is, Sasuke, Itachi, Madara, whenever they activates their MS both eyes are turned to MS.
SO even if Tobirama's statement is partly correct in case of Uchihas, then the above explanation means even the normal humans can activate a transplanted Sharingan to MS if the pain is too high.
And for the case of Danzo, he had already suppressed his emotions, feelings completely (very close to complete) and that is why he cannot activate MS from a transplanted normal Sharingan, but can use MS if the eye is already evolved to MS. But that wasn't case in case of Kakashi.

Ok if I understand what you are saying, you mean to say that the Kakashis and Obito's Sharingan are not connected.
And you are also saying that Kakashi can activate MS if the pain is high enough.
Then how in world did both Obito and Kakashi both end up with Kamui?
That's supposidly is impossible since the MS jutsu developed upon first activating the MS is solely dependent on the user, not the eyes.
The only explanation is that they shared the same feelings and hence developed the same type of MS. Had circumstances been different, Kakashi could have developed Amateratsu.
