I believe it is the fact that Tobi understood and respected Itachi's strength more than he was scared. He isn't as scared as he is concious of the risks he could be posed to were Itachi to go against him.

If Tobi was truly as strong as you state - at that given time, can you tell me why he didn't just absorb Naruto in the woods when he recklessly attacked him? He could have captured him so easy, and it wouldn't matter since Itachi would be gone later. Also Nagato knew all along, and so did Zetsu, it would be easy to still hide his identity to the remaining members of akatsuki... In general his skill and way to act has just been too random.
Itachi is determined, and he wouldn't miss a chance to kill Obito/Tobi if it appeared, however, he also thought it was Madara, and Itachi wasn't sure about his skills, which is the reason he never risked trying to kill him, since if he failed he knew he couldn't keep akatsuki out of konoha any longer..
Itachi is no doubt one of the smartest and thereby most skilled shinobi in history. His genjutsu level would exceed Obitos as well, how would Obito ever be able to kill Itachi? His only chance is to absorb him, but genjutsu will pown him, and at the right moment itachi will just strike.

Stop saying Obito is way over Itachi, I say we haven't enough info on Obitos skill in genjutsu and in fighting other sharingan users, since these sort of fights are very different. From what is known it's obvious that Itachi is more skilled..

Plot no jutsu thats why and i'm pretty sure the obito now can defeat itachi idk about back then though.

He was talking about that moment when Amaterasu took him by surprise, hence him saying right now and mentioning this right after he got hit by Amaterasu. He wasn't talking about all the time.

@bold1: Itachi may have more jutsu than Obito, but that one jutsu can render most of Itachi's jutsu useless.

@bold2: While he is intangible Genjutsu won't work since he is moving himself to the other dimension. Obito also has knowledge on Itachi's jutsu so he knows not to look in his eyes.

@bold3: Obito has 2 eyes, one MS and one normal Sharingan he can use for Izanagi.

@bold4: Itachi needs to touch his opponent multiple times for Izanami to work, to suck him in Tobi only needs one touch so if he tries Izanami Tobi will suck him in.

An opponent with just 1 jutsu like obito can NEVER, I say it again, NEVER defeat someone as highly-skilled as itachi. Even chouji shouldn't find it so hard to defeat a one-jutsu user. Why? If u fight someone who uses one jutsu, ur focus will be on just one fixation. HOW he is going to use that SINGLE technique. (Imagine him using chains to confront minato. That's just shameful. No wonder the fourth overpowered him easily) But fighting a multi-jutsu user causes u to think fast and accurately on WHEN, HOW, and WHAT mode of jutsu should be expected in order to counter it or dodge. So like I said earlier, obito's 1 jutsu makes him a sitting duck.

That other eye of his is stolen from God knows who? And its use is just once (izanagi) after which the eye shuts out forever. Itachi on the other hand possesses izanami (advanced form of izanagi that does not require loosing your light). And I'm sure (from kishi's tale) mr tobi has no idea of itachi being able to use this jutsu.

To use izanami requires contact. That's why he uses his clones as I noted earlier. He never under-rates his opponents. How many opponents have actually gone so close as to touch itachi not to talk of sucking him in. If he sucks itachi in (if ever he was able to do so), he (obito) will only get absorbed in his own dimension by itachi's sharingan (superior genjutsu as I said earlier). Something I recall sasuke did to orochimaru. According to the story, controlling a tailed beast by itachi won't necessary had to the plot because its pretty obvious its an easy task for him. A ninja that single handedly stopped kabuto and MADE him UNDO THE EDO-TENSEI! How will controlling a bijuu be any difficult for him?


Obito is a better user of his eye than kakashi doesn't mean obito's eye is immune to itachi's tsukuyomi! Kakashi had obito's eye and still ended up in rehab for 3 months after his romance with tsukuyomi! You get?

Itachi is one of the most feared ninja's in the naruto series. Have u ever felt the mood that pervades the other characters' feelings anytime they talk about this guy? Obito just popped in over some few episodes ago and already some low thinkers believe itachi is no match for him? Smh for u guys! If u don't like a character, u don't have to downgrade him with biased judgments. The best u can do is to make speculations.

It's actually a huge deciding factor in determining the winner in a fight, to say that it doesn't matter whether or not Itachi knew Obito's secrets makes little sense.

Think about it this way, in the fight between Pain and Jiraiya, Pain said that Jiraiya could have defeated him if he knew of his secrets. But Jiraiya lost, and that is why...get what I'm saying? The connection is there, the point is the same.

Its sad u are comparing jiraiya vs pain to the outcome of what will happen if itachi squared up to tobi.

-jiraiya could have escaped but the fact that his opponent was a former student of his, made him sacrifice his life to find out which one of them is nagato

-his mission was to infiltrate NOT to engage in battle with akatsuki's leader. he went to obtain info on who pain is. When he found out that they (including konan) were former students, he became emotionally disturbed as to why he ended up being the major problem of konoha!

-itachi has only two emotions which is his affection for his kid bro and his love for the village. Any other thing asides those, he wipes out without flinching!

- itachi doesn't jump blindly into a battle without knowing what his opponents technique really is. He was an anbu squad leader from age 9 damnit! He doesn't need anybody to tell him that.

-Jiraiya's main techniques are summoning jutsus. Itachi has 3 main techniques he can coose from aside from other secret ones under his sleeves.

-Itachi is more serious minded in battles than Jiraiya-boy. He even cracks jokes while fighting pain! That's wack!

So jiraiya's condition and itachi's are way different. You just can't compare.

Why would Obito want to kill one his most useful pawns? Itachi helped recruit members to akuatski, captured beasts with kisame, and helped stall out kohana when they were looking for Garaa. All Tobi had to do was wait until Itachi died to attack Kohana and in the meantime Itachi was being a loyal servant.

If Itachi could actually beat Tobi:
-Why did he make a deal with tobi to protect kohana instead of killing him?
- Why did Itachi do everything that tobi told him to do?
-Why did Itachi try to kill Tobi with a amaratsu trap instead of face to face

Obito just made a pact with Itachi. Just because he had to leave the leaf alone didn't mean he couldn't carry out his plans. Tsuande sent Naruto out on missions with Kakashi, Sai, and Yamato all of which are former Anbu ops. She may not have known the reason Obito never had anyone attack the village, but she was right to assume that they would evntually try to capture him when he was on the move, hence the protection. All Itachi's pact did was force a different route to the same goal, only without having innocents killed until Pain attacked.

- Dude, he attacked the village but he didn't do it alone. He had the help of the kyuubi. As soon as minato ripped his control of the kyuubi, he fled. Itachi on the other wiped out the strongest clan in the village with little or no help.

- He was taught by madara does not mean he himself knows what secrets itachi has on him. Remember when he sealed orochimaru from sasuke, oro was shocked to find out that itachi possessed the totsuka blade used in sealing within his susanoo. So don't underestimate itachi. Also, madara who u claim taught obito, lost in battle to the first hokage, meaning he is not invincible!

- I'm going to say this again, itachi doesn't jump into foolish battles. Sasuke's attack on the summit was rash and dumb. Itachi would have taken a more stealthy approach and not make so much noise like his "foolish little brother". And raikage would not be able to touch him because he uses both genjutsu and clones apart from the fact that he is fast. Sasuke stupidly used lightning attack (chidori) on raikage who himself is a lightning user and he got caught by the raikage. Susanoo saved his sorry ass. Obviously, he forgot his experience when he did the same thing to killer-bee earlier in the series and got stabbed in the process.

-Itachi has to study you before he fights you. If that doesn't make him dangerous, I wonder what does...
