I'm sorry, but everyone here is giving Tobi too much hype when it is apparent that Itachi could have killed him at any given moment should he have broken his pact. Itachi knows way more techniques of the Sharingan than anyone. You all are basing your ideals of Obito being stronger than Itachi because he possesses the Rinnengan. Obito obviously knew Itachi could have killed him which was the exact purpose for making a pact with him. Itachi knew Obito's secrets, preferably his weaknesses as well, aside from that Itachi is a fully capably ninja able to defeat Kabuto (in his sage mode a feat Nagato couldn't do against Naruto) using Izanami, a technique I'm sure Obito knew nothing about. Itachi has proven time and time again that his extensive knowledge, visual prowess and skills alone are enough to defeat anyone. I'm no fanboy here, but I know Itachi>Obito.
His secret was that he was not as strong as itachi believed. That doesn't make him better, that just makes itachi ignorant of the fact that tobi would lose. A fact itachi did not exploit.
Interesting point, I've never really thought about it that way. If Obito sincerely wasn't afraid of Itachi, one would wonder why he didn't take him out covertly. Considering he was able to fool essentially everyone in the narutoverse that he was a masked manchild, I would think he would be able to get away with murdering Itachi in cold blood, if he was indeed able to kill him at all. However, the case could be that Obito believed he could sway Itachi to his own goals, or that he intended to let Itachi continue making Sasuke stronger, so that he could acquire a better underling. Perhaps Obito even respected Itachi's peaceful nature, and the strength it took to lead the lifestyle that Itachi led. I guess it's still to early to tell.
The fact of the matter is that a pact was formed between Itachi and Tobi where Tobi said that he'd stay away from Konoha, perhaps in exchange for Itachi's services to the Akatsuki group. IF Tobi did not fear Itachi then why would he go through the trouble to compromise with him? Why did Tobi not just threaten Itachi if he felt that he could manipulate him? Tobi knew that Itachi wouldn't let him attack Konoha in order to draw out the nine tailes Jin so he purposely waited for Itachi to be killed off before sending Pein to deal with the Leaf.
Itachi is strong, yes, but you're seriously overrating him it's not even funny.
Tobi has more than one jutsu, he just never uses anything else because Kishimoto didn't want to give anything away regarding his identity (i.e. Bakufuu Ranbu or any other fire techniques couldn't be used due to Tobi's mask). Also, his "one jutsu" is a multi-purpose technique that has outmatched several top-tier shinobi. Intangibility makes him the complete OPPOSITE of a sitting duck, actually. He can't be touched unless you are instantaneous (and even then Tobi was cheated out of that victory), somehow enter the same dimensional plane that he's on, or use a suicide technique.
Do you not realize that Tobi has this:
You must be registered for see images
Even if he loses one, that's nothing more than collateral damage. And Izanami is a pair. Itachi lost his eye's light after he used it, hence the blur in his eye.
Superior gentjutsu? Itachi's main focus in battle in genjutsu, I'll give you that. But Tobi went as far as to not only control Yagura for a number of years, but he also had a genjutsu so powerful that it made Konan reveal where the Rinnegan was hidden, then killed her. Tobi's no slouch in Illusions, either. Itachi also can't "reverse" Tobi's absorption if he's not looking at him.
Tobi's a full-blooded Uchiha, unlike Kakashi. He can negate Tsukuyomi like Sasuke did.
If anyone's arguments are biased, it's yours. Itachi is an immensely strong character, but Tobi's stronger than he is. Also, what's up with you using courtesy titles before the character's names?
- His 1 jutsu (with chains) out-matched several top tier shinobi... Including minato right?
- He can't be touched literally means he is invicinble but u forget that for him to attack, he has to materialize.
-If obito loses his other eye, he ll just flee from the battle which is obvious when he lost his (attached) arm while fighting the fourth hokage
-The plot does not require depicting if itachi can control yagura or whatever because its illogical. He controlled kabuto using genjutsu and made him stop the edo-tensei. Do u think controlling anything else would be a problem for him?
-Obito used genjutsu to reveal where konan hid nagato's body. I agree. However, he had to grab hold of konan before he used his genjutsu. Why didn't he use it before she attacked him? There is an obvious flaw with his genjutsu because he rushed to grab her neck before casting his genjutsu. It means he can only use it in close combat. Itachi's genjutsu on the other hand is superior since he can cast from close or long range and not looking into his eye won't save u from his genjutsu.
-He needs to grab hold of itachi 1st before he can absorb him and grabbing hold of itachi in itself is near impossible. Watch the fight between sasuke and itachi. The only contact that was successfully hit on itachi was sasuke's guided-shurikens from long range. Can't think of any other opponent that came so close to touching him as that.
-Sasuke negated Tsukuyomi? Hello? I remember itachi was not planning to kill sasuke so why would he use full mangyekou on his little bro? Even tobi told sasuke after the poor guy lamented that itachi tried to kill him with mangyekou, that his brother "had it all planned out". If it was that simple to negate genjutsu, itachi would not have succeeded in wiping out his clan that easily.
-I'm not been biased. I'm telling u what kishi has pointed out since he started writing this story. Itachi has never come close to been defeated until he was caught by his little bro's weapons during their fight. That's the only reasonable way the writer is trying to point out to u that he is really strong. He was never defeated till his death. No bias here bro. Its what is in the script. He would have been arguably better than madara but illness cut his life short and so haters pop out and say tobi is stronger? Oh puhlease!!!
-And on the courtesy before their names, don't mind me. Just sounds funny to me that way. If I knew how to use them in japanese, I would.
Itachi has always been a double agent. It began in Root and continued as a part of atkasuki. He did his job. Noone was powerful enough to challenge him if they thought otherwise.
ur a dummy, itachi was the only thing keeping tobi away from konoha when minato died, tobi mabe can go toe to toe with itachi now that he has the reningan but before he could not, only thing he could do was run away like wat he did against minato
this is the evidence of the deal. itachi seek help from this mask man, in return mask man agreed in exchange of not attacking konoha and sasuke.
now everyone that thinks tobi could've just ignored this deal and attack konoha is and idiot. tobi himself cannot attack konoha alone, he would be dead if he go straight to the village like pain did he doesnt have firepower to destroy konoha. and their plan is not just to destroy konoha but to complete moon eye plan. now, to complete moon's eye plan they needed to capture the jin's, sync in gedo mazo and they need to catch them in order. that's why naruto is the last jin they needed.
its just so happen itachi died before they can capture bee and naruto. I believe that tobi and nagato will stll carry out the plan if itachi is alive, its scheduled. as madara said in the current chapter they're still on time. so everything as of the moment went smoothly.
itachi has no way of stopping them, that is why he SPIED instead of OPPOSING them he JOINED akatsuki to watch from the inside. now who looks afraid ehre?

I know some of you are smarter than you are making out to be. What does it mean by if he knew my secrets, I would be dead?
Gosh a freaking 8 year old knows what that means and how to make sense out of it. Why would he say that if he knew that he was stronger than Itachi? If you knew that there is no way that someone can whoop your ass would you say something like that? No way would I say such if I was stronger that him.
I dont get why this people are so ignorant. NINJA's secrets are part of his strength. that's why most ninja's win in a fight because they manage to keep secret.
tobi wins against konan because he manage to keep 1 more secret = izanagi.
pain wins against jiraiya because he manage to keep his secret = 6bodies, 1 controller, not with them
gai wins against kisame because kisame doesn't know the secret of morning tiger = not chakra based
bee manages to escape from team taka because he manage to keep a secret = he escaped by using his tentacle.
I can go on but you should be able to realize by now how important a secret is on a fight.
IF itachi knew the secret he COULD have won, but the point is HE DOESN'T know! that's why he FAILED to kill tobi. hell even tenten could've won against tobi if she'll knew how his S/T jutsu works and izanagi. lol.
and one more thing, if itachi wanted to kill tobi, why would he set a trap on sasuke's eye? why don't he just kill tobi since he knew they are threat to konoha? I want an answer from fanboys.
even if itachi knew of their plan and tobi being a threat to konoha, I wonder why itachi didn't try to kill tobi when he was alive? I wonder about that too you know.
2 things
1st. It has been established that itachi definetly could have killed obito by him saying "If Itachi knew my secrets Id be dead by now" which proves that Obito Definetly thought Itachi was MORE than capable of killing him. In fact, going by his words Obito was SURE that itachi he'd prove no match to Itachi.
2nd. Being crushed by that rock was the best thing to happen to obito because otherwise Itachi would have killed him in the massacre
Tobi was scared of Itachi destroying his plans. IF Itachi knew what he was planning Tobi knew Itachi was more than capable of screwing up plans. That is what and why Tobi feared Itachi knowing to many of his plans/secrets. NOT because he would defeat him 1v1 but his plans.
you're kind of right, itachi joined to spy on Akatsuki, and while he was in akatsuki he made tobi/pain promise not to harm konoah, but if you think about it, considering how powerful tobi and nagato are, they could've just broke the promise and destroy konoah earlier, they actually had to wait before he died, so this shows you that tobi/nagato either had extreme respect towards itachi, or they felt that he was powerful enough to defeat them
The secret was that he was not madara. Itachi knew about the s/t tech. he even talked about it to tobi the first time they met. The secret is that he was not madara, and that he really planned on involving konoha. Had itachi knew he would dismiss his pact after itachi died, itachi would have killed tobi. Thats what he means by IF he knew his secret. Meaning if they fought, itachi would have killed tobi. the secret is the reason itachi would fight tobi, which does not effect the ability to defeat tobi.
whats the point make this thread when we don't really know if he was fear or not COS he was alway hiding his face so how we know without seeing his face expression.. but i can see he was feeling safe when no one knew his secrets so i called him a cowarded, not a man.. plus he already said "thats good i kept few secrets from them, even from him, or id dead right now." that might made many people thought itachi is stronger than him, well i agreed with that too. tobi is only smartest as secrets to kept himself safe and survived..
I still cannot figure out why people keep downgrading Itachi and boasting Obito. Its quite strange seeing that Kishi has made a point to show how powerful Itachi was. EVERYTHING thrown at him and he still wasn't defeated by anyone....and please don't bring up the Sasuke battle. It was very clear that he let him win, pushing him to his limits. Obito's words to Sasuke after hearing him say that Itachi was serious in trying to kill him with Tsukuyomi and Amatersu "If Itachi were being serious, you would be dead right now...that is a fact". So lets get rid of that. Obito is powerful no doubt, but even with his rinnigan I doubt Obito would win. If he did he would be near death. Just because Obito has his s/t jutsu means nothing if your opponent is skilled in combat and highly intelligent
Its a matter of agreement. Tobi kept it part until itachi is dead. The scenario is likely to be this way "itachi bergaining to join akatsuki, telling tobi that he's ready to do is biding but they will have to leave konoha undestroy. Similar to the bergain between danzo and itachi (eradicating the uchiha clan to save his little brothers life)
