Tobi should have slipped through naruto

After the headbutt, tobi says and in question form "I should've slipped through you, but you couldn't even scratch my mask?"

I think he is surprised that even though he was trying to phase through naruto, that he was unable to.

Is it possible that maybe it has something to do with narutos kyuubi mode?

Maybe theres some other connection between the 9tails and tobi other than that tobi controlled it.

any thoughts?

Either Naruto used his speed to hit Tobi before he can try to phrase or it has something to do with Naruto's Kyuubi Mode. This could be the "special power" that Yamato said someone would need to beat Tobi

Maybe because, Tobi controlled the Nine Tails with hes Chakra and the Nine Tails has grown used to it so it doesnt affect him, cause the others didnt touch Tobi's Chakra

I mean, wouldn't u rather test the power of ur opponent or just throw ur strongest technique at him and waste chakra or would u test him to see what type of strategy u need or how much chakra to use? Tobi can phase through any matter and any technique that includes chakra so why can't he phase through a chakra shroud?

it works both ways buddy. like lets say, a body builder thought he could lift xx weight. he tries, but he could not. he says "Damn, i should've been able to lift that" its the same thing. and then theres the mistake should've like this: "I could have prevented this from happening, i should've done something about it in the beginning."

why would he want to test his power? he obviously already knows about the power of the 9tails and naruto. hes already handled the other tailed jinchurikis. be more open minded before conforming with simple decisions.

Ur idea of open minded is that there is more reason as to why he didn't phase through when its pretty obvious Kishi made it that way to show that he was testing him.

And how was my idea a simple one? What I said was a tactic that almost any smart ninja uses when they don't know the capabilities of their opponent. U have seen Kakashi and Itachi do it in the manga and anime.

Oh and u say Tobi knows about the power of the 9 tails and Naruto? I must have missed something because I haven't read any manga where Tobi fought Naruto in KM mode. Have u? So tell me how does he know the capablities of Naruto?

the reason why tobi didnt phase through naruto is simple. its the exact same reason that wolverines adamantium is unbreakable in one episode and is getting ripped in half by the hulk in the next. it is also why superman can face a guy that attacks with his mind, and when the guy ask why aren't my attacks working superman says cause i moved faster than your thoughts. its why darksied whos death beam can kill from across the galaxy gets blocked by wonder womans cufflinks.
