This October a movie called the Interview will be hitting theaters across the country. For those of you who don't know, the Interview is a film by the creators of "This is the End" and "Neighbors" staring Seth Rogen and James Franco who are both put up to the task by the CIA to assassinate North Korean leader, Kim Jun-Un.

Now obviously, this film is a comedy and not one to be taken seriously. However this film has already stirred up quite a lot of controversy and it still has four months before its release date. There have been reports from the North Korean government that they view this film and its clear and distinct targeting of Kim Jun-Un as "an act of war" and if the US does not ban this film from screening that we will face the consequences by the end of the year.

I bring this up because I want to know what you all think of this bizarre situation. I love cinema; my life revolves around making films and watching films, and in all my years of watching films I must say that when I saw this trailer in theaters for the first time I was very taken back by it. I don't understand who in Hollywood would green light a film that is about assassinating a current, living authoritarian figure, especially one of an outside force. I understand that its in the good name of comedy, and that its a film so it shouldn't be taken too seriously, but there is a line when it comes to media.

Someone already told me about this and a situation like this has been played out over and over again. Look at other film like this such as Borat, the Dictator, etc, made to mock something or someone of another part of the world. In my view, this isn't crossing a new line in film, just revisiting an already visited location. Also, outside of South Korea, Japan, and maybe Guam, I don't see any US foreign interests in danger.

I see what your doing here...

OP: They (NKPR) are looking for any excuse to make them seem like serious contenders, all the while trying to rally other countries to unite with them to oppose us. We have heard them blare their war trumpets a dozen times over, and they have threaten to blow Seoul up time and time again... Basiclly its a series of political stunts to gain a foot hold against us politically.

People getting all worked up over a premise, no one talking even knows how this movie plays out yet. For all they know James and Seth could become friends with Kim by the end of the movie. Either way, Korea isn't intimidating and we shouldn't allow outside forces impact anything artistic, even if it is in bad taste. This applies to everything, I remember when Trey and Matt from Southpark were getting death threats for planning to draw Muhammad(despite having already done so with no repercussions), they aren't Muslim, it's not a sin for them to draw Muhammad just because you believe it is that only applies to your religion.
