Donald Trump has finally won his much deserved title as President. And of course everyone is losing their shit about it and complaining on the internet. But I feel like the reason he won is because of the internet. If people didn't have his name in their mouths 24/7 he wouldn't be nearly as popular as he is now. You go on Trending page of YouTube and all you ever see is Donald Trump related videos and skits about whatever "crazy" thing he said last week. Imagine if Trump wasn't thrusted in our faces nearly everywhere we went on the internet? He would've probably lost way earlier in the race.
And this isn't the first time I've seen the internet influence politics in a negative way.
Remember Brexit? On Twitter a lot of people were against it. But also within the same day a trending hashtag popped up in favor of it! And they were doing it just because they wanted to rebel and be funny.
Nowadays you see people voting for Harambe instead of donald or Hillary...or the other possible candidates. They voted for a dead gorilla. The amount of shame I feel is pretty high right now.
And when you discuss politics with young people the only politics they seem to know is trump's wall and hillarys emails. If you're lucky they might mention Benghazi.
This is pretty much what I've heard from people about trump and hillary: emails, building a wall, benghazi, ww3, trump being a rapist/misogynist, and hillary being corrupt.
Overall I just think if it was 1990 then HIllary would've definitely won.
Does anyone else feel that the internet is just a toxic force for politics?
