That's not the problem. Rin's death was like.. ohhh. Nothing like Itachi's or Jiraiya's death.

We, the readers, know nothing about Rin. Therefore, when Obito's motivation is about Rin.. it's damn near stupid. If we knew more about Rin, then Obito's feelings would portray onto the readers.
She was his best and only friend (only friend until he was assigned to his cell)from his early childhood (ages 6 or 7). She was only one that understood him. (I made a thread about it one time you can check my threads for the argument, which talked about why obito's love is deeper than naruto's yet naruto's is more commonly accepted).

Everything makes sense, the reason the reader cannot connect is because she doesn't pertain to the main plot. We can connect with characters through naruto, but not through obito, because unlike naruto, we don't understand obito. We have never seen the story in depth threw his eyes, so it's difficult to connect seeing as there is no connection from rin to naruto.

So basically, the reason is because we don't understand obito, and cannot sympathize like we can with naruto, which is the reason we can become connected to the characters in his life but not the ones unique to obito's life. It was never explained why he loved her, or why he wanted to be hokage or anything of that sort, so his motives are not understood.

Well its not THAT bad
could have been much worse
Ok let's see! Obito was shown being restrained of course. Next we see the picture of Team Minato being separated while Rin's image show up. The image comes back together. Obito also kept saying Rin when Minato was charging towards him. I'm sick and tired of Obito's mourning over Rin. I thought Obito would make a good villain. On second thoughts i had my doubts about him. The only good reason why Obito is the contender for main villain is due to the connection that he has with the main character. Sadly i wish Madara was the villain over Obito. At least we would get a villain who has evil intents and doesn't complain about the past. You don't see Madara crying about being rejected as the First Hokage of Konoha.

It kind of makes sense. Seeing as to control a tailed beast one needs a lot of will and understanding of ones self.
-Obito is doing this all for Rin(Sadly) and in turn gives him the power and motivation to over come his demon/the 10-tails so that he can control it
-Understanding who he truly is allows him to take control.

Its pretty much similar to how Naruto gains control of the 9-tails. Its all bout the power of love and most of all BONDS created between people, even if it is a bond that is severed but yet remains connected threw some sad deranged means

Actually I think it was Minato's "Obito I am coming" and the question "Who are you?" made Obito pull himself together. Also notice how the entire Team Minato picture reformed not only the Rin part... which indicates that his feeling for each each member of his team is the reason for his transformation (Rin is the major cause not the only one) .....
