look he lost to elite ninja trained and worked at 1 specific thing to be a anti tobirama squad. maybe they trained with lightning, wind, earth because they can counter water pretty well frim what i seen. also you got to remember they are swords man. tobirama probably killed most but ran out of chakra

Well any ninja that can hold their own against 20 jounin is to be worthy of praise. He isn't the very strongest but I believe he is one of the stronger kages.

I don't think that the squad of 20 jounin were on the same level as Kakashi and Gai. No village has 20 ninjas that are on the same level as Kakashi and Gai. They were probably on the same level as Anko, Asuma, Kurenei, Ibiki and etc.

I know most kage level ninja probably can't handle 10 of them let alone 20.

with all the smart shinobis in tobirama's group present, special mention(danzo, hiruzen and tobirama himself) they calculated their chances to zero success rate against the 20 shinobi even if they will attack all at once. this would only mean that tobirama went out on a SUICIDE mission and therefore would not show in any shape or form the the 2nd hokage was weak...if it proved anything, it proved that he was a hero.
